When should you have the whooping vaccine and when do you start to feel movements with second baby

Just wondering when should you have the whooping cough vaccine, I'm 16 weeks, 3 days, also when do you usually start to feel movements with your second baby? With my son the placenta was at the front.

I think it’s from 20 weeks onwards for whooping cough! I booked mine after my 20 week scan. Can’t comment on 2nd baby movements.

I had mine at the 20 week scan (there was a vaccine lady there). That's the preferred date but they can offer it a bit earlier and later. I started feeling mine very early, properly kicking at 13 weeks but she's very very low down and the placenta is right behind her so she's more pushed forward apparently.. and a major fidget. 16 weeks is probably more accurate for the second :)

@HopefulllHolly Thank you! Just wanted to make sure I have it when I'm supposed to. I did try and ring my midwife, but it's still on voicemail saying she's on annual leave until the 3rd of December, think she's forgotten to take it off.

The practice nurse at your GP surgery can give you your flu, covid and whooping cough vaccines.

Whooping cough can be given from 16 weeks but we like to do it from 20 weeks, after your scan.

RSV is offered from 28 weeks, by either the GP surgery or midwives.

@Tdcp Thank you! Wanted to make sure I have it when I'm supposed to. I did try and ring the midwife, but there's still a voicemail on there saying she's on annual leave until the 3rd of December, think she's forgotten to switch it off.
I wish I'd asked at the 12 week scan if they could tell where the placenta is positioned, I was asked at the 15 week appointment if I had felt anything, but I'm not 100 per cent sure, maybe little bubbles, but don't know if that's wind.

@Sidge Thank you! I've had the flu vaccine and when I've looked at my pregnancy notes online it says I've had the whooping cough, which I haven't yet, wanted to make sure I have it at the right time.
Definitely having the RSV vaccine also.

I haven’t had mine yet.
Ive felt movements from 18 weeks 2nd baby but the placenta is at the back. With my first it was at the front and I didn’t really feel them until 22+ weeks.

Re movements

In my second pregnancy, I felt the first tiniest flutters at 20+2. I thought it would be much earlier as placenta at the back this time (had anterior with DC1), but nope, still over 20 weeks.
I'm nearly 24 weeks now and they are very strong and regular - completely different to last time.

I wasn't told until the 20 week scan about the placenta, it was more of an off the cuff comment though, the baby doesn't stop moving which was highly amusing for the sonographer then she made the comment about the placenta being right behind her which is why I could feel her so early most likely :) x

@Blue2020 With my son I think the placenta was at the front, but I don't know where it is positioned this time, I wish I had asked when I had my 12 week scan.
I'm not sure if I have felt anything yet, maybe little flutters or bubbles, but not certain. Feeling little anxious.

@Tdcp I'm definitely going to ask where the placenta is positioned at the next scan so I know.
Do you know why you see the midwife less when it's your second? I won't see her now until 28 weeks which seems so long away.
Have been feeling anxious at times in this pregnancy.

@sel2223 I'm definitely going to ask where the placenta is positioned at the next scan, I wonder if I could find that out sooner if I ring the hospital where I had the scan.
I can't remember with my son, was eight years ago though, I know the placenta was at the front.

I don't know if it's a second child thing or it's just how it's done now, my DD is 10 so it was a long time ago but I definitely saw the midwife a lot more back then. I'm high risk this time and have barely seen her even though I am having lots of consultations etc. If you're anxious though please see the gp or contact the midwife for some assurance :)

Rainbowsunshine81 · 05/12/2024 17:09

@Tdcp I think that must be how it's done now, I think you should be seen the same amount of times with each pregnancy. Im pretty sure at the booking appointment the midwife did say if I felt I needed to been seen sooner then i could, that's one of the reasons I tried ringing her today to ask, plus it says on my pregnancy notes I'm high risk, I do have an appointment to see a consultant obstetrician. I'm definitely going to try and ring her again tomorrow 🙂

I'm not sure how early they can tell as at my 12 week scan (which was actually at 13 and a half weeks), the sonographer said 'it looks like it's developing at the back' but wouldn't give a definite answer.
I then had a scan at 19 weeks and was told then it was definitely at the back.

At the 19 week scan I said I hadn't felt any movements yet even though it was my second pregnancy and she wasn't worried in the slightest, she just said the average is 20 weeks and be patient! Sure enough, at 20+2 I started feeling movements

Rainbowsunshine81 · 05/12/2024 21:22

@sel2223 I can't recall if they did say at the scan, I was about 13 weeks 2 days. That's reassuring about the movements beginning at 20 weeks. All these things can be reassuring. I think also with me is I think I have a small bump, but be reassuring to see that develop aswell.
