Pregnant with misaligned pelvis - agony! Help!

I’m 17 weeks pregnant and currently lying on my back on the floor in absolute agony. I’ve been seeing a physio who says I have a misaligned pelvis and has given me some exercises to do, but this has been going on for nearly three months now and it’s getting worse, and worse and worse. I’m falling behind at work because I have to take so many breaks to lie on the floor, and at this point I’ve laid on so many floors, at work, friends houses, neighbours houses, even - on a particularly desperate moment - on a public bathroom floor. Eww. I’m not sure what else to try, or if there is another specialist I should try to see - would a chiropractor help?! Any suggestions

Hi, OP. Congratulations on your pregnancy! We saw that your thread hasn't received any replied in AIBU, so we'll move it to our Pregnancy board now, in the hope that someone can offer some ideas there.

Bump. I had horrible PGP which started in week 15 so you have my sympathy. I couldn't walk by week 35.

Try an osteopath

Tired887 · 05/12/2024 18:19

It will get worse and worse as your pregnancy goes on because of the relaxin hormone which loosens your ligaments. Best you can probably do is do the exercises and take rest for most of the pregnancy. I was not able to even go for a 20 minute walk for most of my pregnancy and my physio said if I pushed it, I will make it worse and worse. So if you have a physical job, you may need a dr note and get yourself reassigned or signed off.

Oh shit. That’s terrifying. I thought there might be a solution that didn’t involve my laying down for 6 months :-(

will try osteopath just in case

thank you guys x horrible to hear but feel less alone/mad.

I had a terrible pelvic girdle pain. The only thing that worked was going for 1 hour swim 3-4 times a week. Otherwise I would have ended up on crutches. It slowly got better after birth. There's a charity that supports women with pelvic girdle pain, please Google it up, they might have some ideas

I feel your pain I had terrible PGP - completely unbearable. It was really painful for the last few months - particularly on a night time and sleeping literally did not happen due to the pain. You have my complete sympathy. On another note. Congratulations 🥰 x

Oh you have my sympathies. I got signed off at 21 weeks as I literally couldn't walk. I had to get a cab to take me 2 minutes round the corner to the step. Physio didn't help at all. The osteo managed to get me semi mobile and I had a support belt that helped a little but I basically didn't move for ten weeks when Dts decided to turn up.

Mine was SI joint dysfunction which sounds the same thing.

The good news is that as soon as I had delivered it pretty much dissapeared, I had all the drugs available though as couldn't bf.

@Dazedandconfusedma yeah it's awful and I found people in real life didn't really understand how bad it was. Thank god for mumsnet, my physio and online resources. I literally thought I was pathetic and going mad.

Order a serola belt. Now. It was the only thing that helped significantly. That and rest.

Osteopathy. It’s the goat. Xx
