Hello! I want to eat the best possible diet to make sure baby is as healthy as possible - any tips for vegetarians? I will ask my midwife when I have my booking in appointment but that’s a few weeks away!
Thanks ☺️

Really it's you that will get the effects of your healthy eating not the baby! Baby will take everything it needs from you and leave you lacking, so you eat to keep yourself healthy

Keep it simple and balanced. Protein, healthy fats, low GI carbs, plenty of fruits and veggies. Treats allowed of course like anything in moderation. What do you normally like to eat? You can usually eat the same things in pregnancy as you did before. Only consideration with being veggie in pregnancy is adequate iron intake. So things like beans, lentils, chickpeas, dark green veg, nuts and seeds. Baby demands a lot of iron and in turn your levels can drop. You usually need at least 3 good meals and 2 snacks to keep going.

I'm pescatarian but mainly follow a veggie diet with fish twice a week. I eat what I ate before but try to put a bit more veg and tinned kidney/haricot beans in stuff to bulk it out (in veggie bolognese and things).

Cereals are fortified with iron, folic acid and vitamins so my midwife (also veggie) said to try to get some in.

It’s breakfast I need to work on - I’ve never been a breakfast eater really!
I normally eat quite well, lots of chickpeas, tofu and beans. I’m wondering how to get more omega3 into my diet.

I ate a crap ton of eggs during pregnancy! Sliced hardboiled eggs on toast almost every single morning. It was a massive craving of mine because I was vegan before pregnancy but I wanted to make sure that baby was getting everything they needed. Back to being vegan now but I can't say I don't miss eggs more now!

I also took omega 3 supplements alongside my prenatals.

Have oats for breakfast. It is very versatile, you can make porridge, muesli, etc out of it and it is really good to keep things regular.

I am vegan and I take a vegan omega 3 6 9 supplement (superdrug own brand) but a spoonful of milled linseed is also a good source of omega 3 and you can sprinkle on anything, really.
