It just occurred to me that with DD I had everything by the time I hit the third trimester, but with this baby, well the poor boy is going to be dressed in large pink clothes if he puts in an early appearance.

I've bought a cot mattress but no sheets.

I think, somewhere, there are some nappies, but no idea where.

No bags packed, no birth plan written and I'm not worried about it.

I am a tad concerned by my apparent level of apathy and my chilled out attitude (though it's got to be better than my mumzilla approach with DD).

Am I alone in this or do mums just get over the obsessional bit with second babies?

Well, I'm only in the first trimester with my second baby, but I cannot even contemplate buying stuff...I just couldn't work up any excitement at all for baby paraphernelia if you paid me. I think I'll have to send DH out on a shopping trip when I'm too big to move from the sofa. I see it as a good thing. You realise second time around you just don't need half the crap. a few babygrows, a new cot mattress, ummm, a buggy I suppose (old one has collapsed)..and Bob's yer uncle

Buddhababe · 29/04/2008 18:59

same here. Am in the second trimester and I have no more interest in shopping for stuff. Really hope to perk up soon. I am just ran off my feet with my 17 month old, i don't have any time. The last thing I want to be doing then when I have a break is thinking about what else to buy....

beforesunrise · 29/04/2008 19:00

yes it WILL happen. around 37-38 weeks for me. but certainly nowhere near the same level of organisation i had with first dc!

addictedtoharibo · 29/04/2008 19:48

I have a hard enough time actually remembering Im pregnant let alone realising I am going to have a baby and not in a million years organised enough to get anything for it!

reikizen · 29/04/2008 19:50

Oh god yes. And long may it continue, much healthier in my opinion. You just get on with it without thinking 'oh I've got so much to do etc' Much easier in emotional terms but much more work looking after two I found.

whomovedmychocolate · 29/04/2008 19:57

Well I've now ordered some cot sheets from John Lewis so I feel a tad better. I have no knickers that fit and my biggest priority at the minute is convincing DH that yes I do need another cup of tea right now. But I'm done shopping for a while. Thanks everyone for reassuring me I'm not freakishly disinterested in the shopping bit.

How far are you now whomoved?

I remember you finding out you were pregnant... wasnt that long ago was it?

whomovedmychocolate · 29/04/2008 20:00

Umm I'm erm.....I think about 27 weeks and a few days. So I've known now for 23 weeks. But am still not reconciled to the fact that this enormous wiggly lump is actually a baby!

It will happen! Important stuff buying has just kicked in here at 34 weeks. Realised we don't have a newborn bed (borrowed last time) or a bigger one for DD1 to move out into. Have been lent a cot-bed and feel better now. Also have started to pack hospital bag (I know it's early but if last birth is anything to go by I will need to be prepared so as not to give birth in petrol station on the way!) Also feeling pleased with myself for much smaller hospital bag and not the load of crap that I never needed last time. Showed DH and he asked me where the snacks were- apparently he'd enjoyed them last time whilst I vomited for 4 hours.

Rememebered to hire TENS after a friend who's due in 2 weeks has found they're all booked out in one shop- there's a rush on.

I am however in denial about new pram- will prob go for a Phil and Teds when time comes.

As for the rest- well you know that all you need is buyable at short notice and if the NB has to it can sleep in the sock drawer...

whomovedmychocolate · 29/04/2008 20:10

No, no you were right the first time - two stone heavier!

I am also wondering if its going to ok to put a baby boy in pink

aberdeenhiker · 30/04/2008 09:54

I'm 35 weeks tomorrow with my second, my first came at 38 weeks, and I still have done nothing. I've promised myself I'll start this weekend... I'm so much busier this time, I think that's the difference!

Sketchi · 30/04/2008 10:05

No feeliing the same. I think it's because your more chilled in the 2nd pregnancy and know what to expect, well hope to!

Anything can't be as bad as the first time round right? the shock of no more batchuloress nights out all the time! Ah those were the days, but at least it's a cheaper night out now!

needahand · 30/04/2008 10:49

If the ladies on my antenatal thread hadn't put me ashamed at their efficiency, I probably wouldn't have done anything. Luckily I thought I would get a move on. But somehow this hasn't worked on aberdeenhiker at aberdeen.

I think it is normal and you probably now that it is just a case of getting most things out of storage anyway

slinkiemalinki · 30/04/2008 11:06

You've got bags of time. I'm 20 weeks and have the same pink/blue issue - plus most of our baby stuff is in storage. Wasn't thinking I had to worry for a good few months yet! I think you are actually quite early buying a mattress and nappies TBH!

emilyandjohn · 30/04/2008 13:49

39 + 1 with my second, and so far bought nothing and done nothing. I thought that now I'm on maternity leave I'd get going, but I can't tear myself away from Judge Judy (DS1 at nursery)

slim22 · 30/04/2008 23:26

You have most of it already (cot/nursery equipment etc....) don't you?

I cleaned up the above and bought new vests/pjs/toiletries etc... from around 35/36 weeks.

Now 38 weeks and just packed bags as had lots of contractions over the weekend.

Skimty · 01/05/2008 13:54

I forgot I'd need nappies that aren't 4+ little walkers!!

FrannyandZooey · 01/05/2008 13:59

I am 30 + weeks
I have so far
failed to get any clothes down from the loft
failed to visit the birthing centre where I may give birth
failed to be booked in anywhere to give birth
failed to write a birth plan
failed to buy any nappies

I have however started a 1000 post thread on baby names and I think in the last week I have actually chosen one

next on to do list: convince dp he likes it

Pinkjenny · 01/05/2008 14:03

Aberdeen - am trying to convince dh that we should start ttc number 2. I am going to use your pictures as a ploy - how gorgeous are they!

aberdeenhiker · 02/05/2008 10:20

pinkjenny - glad you like the pics!

needahand - the problem was our antenatal chat started packing too early (I was only 31 weeks) so I knew I could still put it off. Now's when I need the pressure!

JacobsPrincess · 05/06/2008 18:50

Thank goodness I'm not the freak my super-organised friends make me out to be!! It's so lovely to hear you ladies confessing to having done nothing in preparation, like me.
36 weeks now with 2DS, the nursery is still full of boxes waiting to be unpacked from our house move (2 1/2 years ago!), I did buy nappies but have no idea where I put them for "safe keeping", and the baby will be wearing Gap polo shirts aged 2-3 (as these are the only t shirts 1DS deigns to wear.)
Only bit of prep I have managed is to stock freezer with chili, bolognese sauces, lasange and shepherds pies. In a crisis, I cook!
