AmberM223 · 28/11/2024 16:37

Has anyones sickness actually got worse not better? I’m 10 weeks and yesterday and today the sickness is has been 24:7 and constant either nausea or physically being sick. I have had sickness since 6 weeks but not this bad, i thought it would get better not worse?!

I always found that tiredness made sickness worse. Can you fit in a nap?

sobermum23 · 28/11/2024 17:01

I think 10 weeks is the peak for hcg levels (I think?) so when sickness peaks - for my second pregnancy it started to ease after 10 weeks

Potato1234 · 28/11/2024 19:37

Weeks 9-13 are when the hormones peak so you’re most likely to feel worse not better. If you can’t keep any fluid down then contact your gp/triage for anti sickness meds

SophiaRose91 · 28/11/2024 19:43

Not to be depressing, but my sickness lasted for the first 7 months! Morning noon and night i felt hungover! X

thepinkcow · 28/11/2024 19:43

My sickness peaked between weeks 10 and 13 then gradually got better and by 19 weeks had stopped. Hang in there it will get better!

Omg I feel you, I have severe HG. Been in bed for 7 months now, getting induced in 4 weeks, it’s the absolute worst!!!

EllieRosesMammy · 28/11/2024 20:31

Sickness peaks at 9-12 weeks then it should start to improve for you from then :) if you're struggling to cope ask your doctor for some antisickness medication, I had to have it with this baby and it helped somewhat x

LostittoBostik · 28/11/2024 20:32

This is quite normal. Mine peaked around 10-12 weeks and improved rapidly after 16 weeks.

It sucks. sorry!

SkylarH · 28/11/2024 20:33

Yep, mine peaked from about 8-12 weeks in both pregnancies.
Sleeping helps the most.
After 12 weeks it got better and was gone by about 18 weeks.
You've got this!

AmberM223 · 02/12/2024 07:21

Thanks so much everyone! I have been put on cyclizine but this morning i’m throwing up really green/yellow bile with the most FOUL taste like chewed up tablets??, Not sure what to do or if that’s normal!

@AmberM223 ask for some different anti sickness ones, there are all different ones you can try. Cyclizine didn’t help me at all in my first pregnancy, if anything, I felt worse, but I got on better with prochlorperazine. I had HG though so needed drips and injections and then ondansetron to help me reduce the sickness to a manageable level. But don’t be fobbed off, there’s other things you can try to help so ask your GP for something else. Pregnancy Sickness Support is a good source of info on what’s available and how to get help.

Potato1234 · 02/12/2024 18:18

Please don’t listen to people saying that it’s normal and to basically just get on with it. It’s not “normal” morning sickness if you’re vomiting and/or feel nauseous 24/7. Especially if you can’t keep fluid or food down. There’s also no guarantee it will improve. Cyclizine is crap, definitely ask for something else. I second PP about pregnancy sickness support, they explain all of your options. Xonvea and ondansetron seem to be the better ones. You do not have to just put up with it, there’s meds made specifically for this. I have severe HG so if I followed people’s advice to eat ginger and get on with it, then I would have died without medication. Do whatever you can to feel better and definitely contact your maternity triage is you aren’t keeping fluid down xx

I agree @Potato1234
For some reason it feels like there’s some kind of competition sometimes of ‘who had it worst and just put up with it’ but it doesn’t need to be that way at all.

When I had HG so many women around me told me how bad their morning sickness had been too, they didn’t have HG, but sickness and nausea is a spectrum and plenty of women have bad sickness that interferes with their life even if they don’t have HG. I tell everyone there’s help available and to speak to their GP - you don’t have to just put up with this and there are safe and effective medications to help!

Exactly! Even I didn’t have HG and had “regular” morning sickness I would still try meds to make my life easier. Don’t see the point in suffering and it doesnt make you a superior person!

Hi everyone and thanks for all your replies, i was actually hospitalised at the weekend and still am. I have been told i have HG, it’s been debilitating. I am currently on a mix of Cyclizine (still!) and Prochlorperazine and see how i get on with this. I have never felt so lifeless and like a shell of a person!

Oh OP, I’m so sorry. Welcome to one of the worst clubs to be in! There is a Facebook support group (HG and pregnancy sickness uk group) which you might find helpful.
Hopefully those medications help you but if they don’t (they didn’t first time for me when I was hospitalised before I started any anti emetics) there are others available and I would strongly recommend speaking to Pregnancy Sickness Support or asking a relative to on your behalf to get fact sheets about medication. Ondansetron worked for me, but I only got it at 12 weeks after my 3rd admission because everyone kept telling me it was ‘so risky’. The risk is a tiny uptick in chance of cleft palate and the evidence isn’t really that robust to begin with. It made a huge difference to me and I was able to start to recover so that by later in my pregnancy I was actually well.
Unfortunately there is lots of misinformation and you really have to learn to advocate for yourself to get the right help.
Best of luck to you, it’s absolute hell but I promise you can get through it with the right support ❤️

Second what @Nomnomnew has said. The Facebook group really is a life saver and it’s very active and supportive. You aren’t alone. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever been through and I hope yours gets managed with meds. I’m on steroids and xonvea still at 35 weeks and I’m still bed bound unfortunately. A lot of women can manage well with the right meds. Best of luck to you xx
