I’m 18 weeks pregnant and started feeling slight movements around 15/16 weeks on and off. Been a day or two and haven’t felt anything. Midwife said i wouldn’t feel regular movements until 24 weeks with my first. I can’t help but worry.
I had a 16 week check up and baby’s heartbeat was fine. And have another scan next week. Would this be normal? Or concerning?

Baby is still so tiny they can get themselves in all kinds of hidden positions. I really wouldn’t worry until you’ve had a consistent, regular pattern of movements. They can be there one day and not the next when it’s still early pregnancy. In my opinion movements aren’t ‘reduced’ if they were never frequent in the first place - if that makes sense? Obviously if you have a regular pattern of movements which reduces or >24 weeks then that’s different and I would absolutely seek help from triage. It’s really hard when they’re still so little.

Hi @NMc16, I’m 18 weeks too and same. It did bother me a bit earlier this week but I’ve had lots of movement again today. I think basically the baby is so small still that it can shuffle to a different bit of your womb, or flip over so any movement is towards your spine rather than your front, so you can’t feel it. I’ve had two MMC so understand your fears but I think it’s very normal for it to be very erratic at this stage, don’t worry!

Completely normal at this stage, lots of little nooks and crannies where baby can tuck themselves into and plenty of room to move and change positions. It also depends what you are doing as well so busier days you'll probably feel less than days when you're chilling and more tuned into even the tiniest of flutters.

From about 20 weeks you should notice the movements getting stronger and more regular with each week then 24-28 weeks is when they usually settle into some sort of pattern which they recommend you track.

For now just enjoy these intermittent little flutters.
