Feeling embarrassed after first vaginal examination

Firstly sorry if this is tmi! I'm almost 30 weeks pregnant and this morning i had a gush of pale brown/pink watery liquid. Was quite concerned so called in with midwife at hospital.

Long story short everything seems OK and didn't think it was labour.
But she did a vaginal examination (this is my first pregnancy and I have never had this done to me before) & took swaps etc

Obviously I know I'm going to have to get used to this for giving birth 😭😅, but I hadn't shaved or anything down there. My brain is telling me they're used to it, they likely don't give a rats ass, etc etc... But I can't help but feel embarrassed!! Not a question as such but anybody else experienced feeling like this or am I just feeling awkward bc it's the first time being inspected down there ? Also is it okay to not be shaved down there? Can't reach a thing haha. Just need a reassuring comment or two, please don't judge me 😂

I’m a retired midwife and I can fully reassure you that it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. You did exactly the right thing getting checked out when you were worried. The midwives and doctors and nurses only care about you and the baby. Everybody has got the same after all. Don’t worry anymore and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. x

I had a friend who was a gynaecologist and she used to post on Facebook with all the details of the vags she saw along with a rating of each one. She judged them hard. Put me right off going for exams, haven't even been to one and never will.

Your definitely real friend needs to be reported to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, who will likely strike her off for her no honestly, absolutely and definitely real behaviour.

Irresponsible post.

Just don't apply glitter and you'll be fine. And even if you apply glitter they won't mind

If I were a medic I think I'd enjoy seeing a patient with glittery genitals. It'd make a change.

@Worrywort98 it actually wasn't bad at all. The instrument they use looks super intimidating but they literally only put the tip in, plus they use lubricant so was fine and over super quick!

Ah that makes sense! But you'll be fine, try not to worry about these things, but I know at 25 I was also! I remember my first smear, I took my mum! But it was honestly fine and you become less shy about your neather regions as you get older! (And I'm not ancient, I'm only 32) xxxx

@Worrywort98 how could you even see to shave down there anyway??? it is really only in the past 25 years or so that women started shaving their pubic hair!! pretty sure I had a bush when I had both of mine!!

AshCrapp · 26/11/2024 20:25

What do you mean, is it ok not to shave? I don't shave there at all. I did it once in my late teens and didn't like it. Do you think that my body is so embarrassing and awful that a medical professional would be horrified to see it?

That's got to be fake news.
With social media and having colleagues as friends these days etc etc. that would be reported almost immediately and they'd be fired on the spot. Beyond unprofessional especially in that role!!
It's also sad that due to one persons clear lack of professionalism and maturity you've chosen to risk not having life saving tests done on yourself. Give your head a wobble and have it done. Believe me, most professionals are not cretins like your 'friend'.

Gosh that’s vile. Sorry this has put you off. How unprofessional of her 😢

Women have pubic and other body hair, its our natural state

Northernluce · 27/11/2024 19:07

I didn’t even know we were all shaving down there until recently. I had a full bush for years apart from the occasional trim for a swimsuit and never got any complaints 🤷‍♀️

BananaNirvana · 27/11/2024 19:09

I’ve never shaved. I find the modern trend for wanting to look like a pre pubescent girl deeply disturbing. Pubic hair is completely normal.

Sorry but I don’t believe this either. Aside from the point that it is unlikely a medic would do something like this, how was anyone even friends with them on Facebook ? I’d be swiftly unfriending someone who posted such things.
