Underactive thyroid TTC

Blood tests have shown high TSH levels and anemia. Doc requested an appointment to discuss but no availability so it took a while to schedule and now all non urgent appointments have been cancelled for the foreseeable so I'm waiting again. I am also TTC and it is time sensitive due to age. Has anyone managed to conceive with high TSH and no medication? If I chose to wait for medication does it take long to kick in? I cannot see my GP being active in monitoring my levels and adjusting dosages.

Pay for a well woman appt if time is against you. You need to have your thyroid sorted for pregnancy. so don’t go diving in without it under control.

If you have confirmed hypothyroidism, you’ll be seem at intervals during your pregnancy to monitor your levels.

How high is it? It took about 5/6 months for my levels to slowly come down (and then accidentally went too far!) , I started trying after that when levels were between 1-2 and it took 3 months to conceive.

NICE guidance also says GP should refer women with hypothyroidism trying to conceive to an endocrinologist which mine did. I found my GP wasn’t especially knowledgable about thyroid issues. https://cks.nice.org.uk/topics/hypothyroidism/management/preconception-or-pregnant/

Scenario: Preconception or pregnant | Management | Hypothyroidism | CKS | NICE

Covers the management of women planning a pregnancy or who are pregnant, who have pre-existing subclinical or overt hypothyroidism, or are newly diagnosed with subclinical or overt hypothyroidism.

@Thehaberdasher I will book a well. woman appointment. Time isn't on my side as I am turning 40 this month and would like a small gap between my son and hopefully a sibling but it's also not worth rushing and having avoidable problems. I have already had pre eclampsia and some pregnancy issues. I am sure my last pregnancy caused the thyroid problem!

@Brownbottle it is over 13. I will wait for my appointment and read the guidelines so I am informed, thanks . It is so hard to get an appointment these days!

If its over 10, NHS doctors should be treating it?

I got a super quick appointment and prescription by going to a private gynecologist qho specialised in recurrent loss, and my tsh wasn't overly high but bad enough to cause miscarriages. Just needed to be under 2.5 for ttc and pregnancy x
