Can I eat Brie if it's made from pasteurised milk?

I love Brie at Christmas and I've read conflicting information about if it's safe or not. If it says made from pasteurised milk, is it safe to eat? I saw one at Tesco that says made from pasteurised cows milk. Thanks Smile

NHS advice is to avoid soft cheeses even if they are pasteurised if they have a white rind, unless you cook them to be steaming hot.

It is advice which you can choose to follow or not. Posters usually come along and say I ate xyz in pregnancy and was fine, and others will tell you to avoid it completely. Totally up to you! (I'm in the eat it if you want to group)

I ate what I wanted and have 2 healthy DC but I don’t know if that’s survivors bias?? Sushi, rare steak. Didn’t fancy pate.

I’ve also had the odd glass of wine here and there with both (maybe 1 a month or every 6 week?)

I've been debating this too - the President one in Sainsbury’s is pasteurised cow's milk so I've already had a couple of brie and cranberry paninis but it has been melted. I wouldn't have it uncooked just to be safe (and because I prefer it melted) but I'd guess it's probably fine because it's pasteurised cows milk. If I liked the texture of it I'd be having it. Just to add I'm very careful / anxious when it comes to eating things in pregnancy but this is one thing I've thought is probably fine!

I just heat mine up to be sure - nothing better than gooey melted brie with warm bread!

*drooling at the thought

Highly recommend reading Expecting Better by Emily Oster. She has a section on risks associated with the foods you’re usually told to avoid so you can make your own decision whether to eat or not. I’ve chosen not to worry about it, the risks of listeria from Brie are so low, and if you’re worried you can cook it then it’s totally fine.
