Job interview and I found out I’m pregnant?

Hey guys, so I don’t know if this is the dumbest question ever or not. We weren’t trying for a baby, but just over a week ago we found out that I’m pregnant and I’m really happy about that. However, I had started to apply for part time jobs as my toddler is a bit bigger now so I thought that I could start part time job. The pregnancy came as a surprise for sure, and 3 days ago I found out that I have a job interview on Tuesday for a job that I had applied for. I’m not sure now if I should go for the interview or not? Surely they won’t give me the job if they know that I’m pregnant? I will be 6 weeks on Tuesday when I have the interview. I don’t know what to do.. should I go for the interview? Should I tell them that I’m pregnant? Or should I leave it, as I don’t even know how long I’ll be able to work for? My first pregnancy had a few complications, so I don’t know what will happen this time. I am so sorry if this is the dumbest post! I genuinely am so confused right now.

I personally wouldn't apply for a job whilst pregnant unless it was a temporary one, not really fair for them to train you up etc then you leave.....unless you'd go back afterwards?

No don't tell them. It's very early anyway but also pregnancy is a protected characteristic and they can't legally hire/fire based on it so telling them puts them in a awkward position.

If it's a part time job would it be a relatively low level position anyway? So you leaving in 8 months won't impact then greatly?

they're not allowed to discriminate based on pregnancy. 6 weeks is still very early and you could still have a miscarriage. Definitely go for the interview, definitely do not tell them you're pregnant - if they offer you the job you can decide if you want to accept, by then you're further along in the pregnancy and have had more time to think about if you still want to work or not - but you might but have any complications and could get 8 months of work in before you leave - and then up to you if you go back (you probably won't qualify for mat leave pay though)

Just go, they can't discriminated and they wouldn't know. You can always say it was a bit of a surprise as you didn't TTC

Don't tell them, go for the interview. Good luck! I have worked in a few places where a woman has started then turns out she is pregnant.

Many years ago I had a job interview while about 5 months pregnant. I didn't mention it and only one of the interview board noticed (I found out subsequently). They wanted me for the job and so worked around me. It was inconvenient for them to begin with but I worked there for 20 years.

If you want the job long term, don't tell them and go for it. Just bear in mind the potential impact on maternity pay and leave if you were to take it. If you're not that interested in it I wouldn't bother - it's a lot going back to work after a baby and you might appreciate the familiarity of your current job if the new one isn't really important for you.

Congratulations!!

I'd go for it, don't worry about what's "fair" for the company. You can't be discriminated against for being pregnant and there are lots of protections about how you are treated. You're unlikely to be entitled to maternity pay but if you have worked a certain amount in the last year you may be entitled to maternity allowance. I wouldn't tell them, it's very early still and you are under no obligation to tell an employer about your pregnancy until 15 weeks before your due date. I've managed teams for years and there have been plenty of occasions where a team member has announced they're pregnant after starting (I've done it myself!) - the company just has to deal with it! Honestly you will probably find they are supportive and happy for you.

If you get the job and started in the next month, you'd still probs have 6 months or so before going off.
