Sickness and severe 24/7 nausea - metoclopramide

Has anyone taken this medication?
I was hoping it would last until nearly the next dose as can only be taken every 6 hours. Finally had a small amount of relief yesterday but seemed really short lived. Is this normal? Hoping the dr wouldn't prescribe me something that would leave me for hours at a time worse than the previous meds but the working part was better - feel like they should've mentioned this as I told them how bad I'm feeling :(

10 weeks and getting worse.

Oh poor you.
I was overwhelmed with Hyperemisis in both pregnancies. I think I tried every anti-sickness drug going (several made me worse). I think the combo that got me back to work was metroclopromide and cyclizine.

Are you aware of Pregnancy Sickness Support?

I'm 37 weeks and have been taking metoclopramide since 7-8 weeks, it's never quite been perfect but reduced my vomiting down from 10+ times to once or twice. Like the other poster here I did have some success with taking both metoclopramide and promethazine but the mixture of the two had me like a zombie which felt worse with the nausea.

Bless you. I have severe HG and tried so the meds going. I’m 34 weeks and on steroids and Xonvea. I remember metoclopramide especially making me worse, as it empties your stomach quicker. What meds have you tried so far? As PP said, have a look on pregnancy sickness support which details all the medications xx

Also, you’re 10 weeks. You’re in the worst of it! I can’t say my HG is resolved but week 9-13 were horrific due to the hormone surges

Ask your doctor for cyclizine too, sounds as though you need a combination. Ondansetron is really effective but you can only start that from 15 weeks I think. Keep going back if you need more support.

You can have ondansetron in the first trimester. The study that says it increases the chance of cleft lip and palate is not reliable and shouldn’t be used to prevent people from using it. I don’t even think it’s in the RCOG guidelines anymore. Dehydration and malnutrition are far more likely to cause these risks. I'm in a HG support group where thousands of women have used ondansetron in the first trimester with no issues. Myself included, although it didn’t work for me
