Morning sickness in hotels

Bit of an odd one, but going away this weekend for a little break and staying in a decent hotel. I'm currently going to bed with a little bowl for morning sickness because it's usually immediate with no real warning so very rarely make it to the loo just outside my room. Any idea if I'd be laughed at for asking hotel if they have something I could use? What do other people do? Thought of throwing up into a small carrier bag in hotel room stresses me out (how do I get rid of it?) but travelling by train so can't really take the ancient washing up bowl I use at home with me. Answers on a postcard...

Isn't there a bin in the room you can use?

purpleme12 · 22/11/2024 10:01

Usually is

Get yourself to the bathroom and use the toilet?

Or you can buy travel sickness bags, we have them in the car for dc. They’re just sturdy plastic and the the top has a round section with notches so you can twist it round and secure it. Then you throw it away in the bin.

Im fairly sure hotel staff have seen more than their share of afterparties, this is minor in comparison.

@Idontevenknowmyname I never usually get enough warning to go to the loo (hence the washing up bowl!). I might take a bag and pray they have a decent bin I can wash out. Stayed somewhere recently with a wicker bin - so you can see why I'm worried!

Can’t you put a bowl in your suitcase? Maybe buy a pack of foil ones you can throw away

Teenagerantruns · 22/11/2024 10:24

You can take plastic bowl though even if you going on the train? Just get a new smaller one, put in your bag with clothes in it?

shellyleppard · 22/11/2024 10:25

a foldable washing up bowl like you use for camping??

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 22/11/2024 10:30

Can't you get a bowl that will fit in your bag - tupperware or something - and pack your clothes into it in the bag?

I wouldn't be at all comfortable putting bags of vomit in a bin and expecting housekeeping to deal with them.

TheProvincialLady · 22/11/2024 10:32

Just pack a suitable bowl. Believe me, once the baby is born you will very quickly become used to packing and travelling with unbelievable amounts of stuff. Even if just going to the supermarket. Your old washing up bowl won’t take up much space as you’ll fill it with socks etc surely?

No, please don't do that.
@OptimisticRealist2024 just buy a cheap bowl nearby.

deeeyewhy · 22/11/2024 10:37

Well you can't really bin sick without warning the staff (biohazard) so ideally you need to take something from which you can empty the sick into the loo and flush. A small Tupperware (like a Heroes / Celebrations tub) in your bag / case with clothes packed into / around it would do the trick.

Singleandproud · 22/11/2024 10:38
  • Buy a tub of Celebrations / Heroes etc and use the tub.
  • If you have time ordering some airplane sickness bags.
  • Buy a collapsible camping bowl / washing up bowl.
  • Take some antibac wipes with you and use the hotel bin.

Doggy poo bags?

Hoppinggreen · 22/11/2024 10:47

I feel for you OP, I wouldn't have even managed a train ride
I suggest lots of plastic bags with something absorbant in the bottom, you can use them to line whatever bin is in the room.
I do urge you to tell them if you have been sick though so it can be properly disposed of
Good luck, I did a work related road trip to Europe with some VERY understanding colleagues when pg and it was awful

OptimisticRealist2024 · 22/11/2024 11:39

Thanks everyone - I think a large sweets tub when I get there might be a genius idea so I'll try that. 😊 I'm only taking a small overnight bag so don't want to stress about cramming a bowl in. And definitely wanted to avoid a bin - feel awful thinking of a cleaner finding that ☹️

Take your own bowl. I can't believe it wouldn't occur to you not to do that!

That's not really fair. I'm travelling very light - a small day rucksack (clean top, socks, nightie, knickers, toothbrush) - and the bowl I have won't physically fit into it. I'm not in the habit of lugging a large plastic bowl around and I've never been in this situation before. I'll be changing trains three times so I'm not willing to travel like a pack mule if there's a sensible solution, which I've now found.
