Hi we went for a growth scan the other day and they’ve said baby is measuring on the 10th centile they said not to worry unless she drops below it but they said she is small. Im 34 weeks and just wondering if theres anything i can do or eat to help her gain more weight.

Hey, I went for a growth scan today and my baby has dropped too. I asked if my diet (or lack of) had anything to do with it. I got told that unless I am starving myself, then it won’t affect the baby. So I don’t think eating more would increase their weight either. But you could always check with your midwife?

Hey, I'm just posting to say I'm almost exactly in the same boat wondering the same thing. I'm 29 weeks today and my baby is measuring exactly on the 10th centile and it's been worrying me. Also wondered if there's anything I can do to increase size/weight.

OP have you had to go for more regular growth scans? My consultant doesn't seem too worried as everything else looks fine but is having me in fortnightly to check.

Unless you are smoking or taking drugs then no there's not much you can do to improve baby's weight as its mostly related to the placenta and umbilical cord,
I would try not to worry as by definition 10% of babies will be 10th centile or less and hopefully a next scan would pick up any worrying pattern

Don’t worry. Medical professionals aren’t concerned unless the baby falls under the 3rd percentile. Besides which, growth scans can be very unreliable as they are sometimes looking at measurements of millimetres and depend largely on the position of the baby. My daughter was supposedly measuring in the 10th percentile all the way through but she was born at 7 lbs 4 oz. I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and baby is consistently measuring under the 20th percentile (and has fallen under the 10th) but I am trying not to worry as previous experience tells me scans aren’t always right. Try to relax if you can and keep eating intuitively.
