Attending a wedding

I’m almost ten weeks pregnant and due to attend a wedding this weekend. I feel crap at the moment though. I have been having nausea mainly in the evenings since 6 weeks but in the last couple of days it has ramped up and I am nauseous a lot of the day as well. I am working from home the last few days but will have to go into the office later in the week which I am dreading. Plus supposed to be going to a wedding this weekend, which I am also not looking forward to at all. I spent this evening glued to the couch. Any tips I would be grateful for.

See you gp asap for a sick note for work and tell the wedding people you're unwell? Obviously no point going flif you'll be miserable

thanks for your reply. I might just do that will play by ear. Had not planned on telling work yet as had a loss at 11 weeks before .

I'd tell work now - they have to make reasonable adjustments for you so you can take more breaks/work where you feel comfortable. I told my boss at 6 weeks because I have a huge daily team meeting at 9.30am which is when my morning sickness peaks so I'm nearly always chucking my guts up. It means my sick days aren't recorded in a way that triggers any disciplinary action, I can take some more breaks without feeling bad, and my boss can cover for me at meetings where I'm extra nauseous/not keeping things down. We'll tell HR after my dating scan, unless I have another miscarriage before then and she'll tell them sooner. It's easier too for emergency EPU appointments, and if I have another loss then I know I don't have to go into detail - I can just drop things at work and deal with it at home.

Wedding-wise: I'd go to the ceremony and duck out of the reception. The ceremony is the most important bit and will only be a couple of hours. If you think this will be difficult, I'd tell someone in the bridal/groom party you've been having crippling migraines (something debilitating but non-contagious), wish the couple well, but explain you really need to go home.

@OptimisticRealist2024 thanks this is great advice. I think I will leave the wedding early and use the migraines excuse. I have had a couple of migraines during this pregnancy too.. which I never have normally so it wouldn’t be a total lie. And agree it wouldn’t be good if people think I am there with something contagious!

I’d leave early if they haven’t paid for a meal for you. If they have I’d just leave after that.

I went to a christening at 10 weeks with DC2 and my mum and husband knew and rallied round me, bringing me food. Chatting to other people so I didn’t have to when I was privately retching. Sharing childcare of DC1. My mum pushed me in the shower in the morning before the event (in a kind way) got me dressed like a toddler and then did my make up. So yeah more help the better! I wouldn’t have got through the day otherwise
