Hi i went to my 12 week scan I was 12 weeks 5 days the nt measurements was 3.8mm which is .3 over the ‘normal’ measurements I’ve had the cvs just waiting on results. I also had the blood test to combine with the scan results and they have come back 1 in 2 for Down syndrome has any one else had a positive outcome with the same or similar results. I’m also nearly 36 years old so this is going against me aswell

Hi @Rachelf88
Just want to add my experience as I know how frightening it can be.
I was told 3.8/3.9mm at different scans, some regular sonographer and some with my fetal medicine consultant who said 3.9mm was the lowest average she could see.
My bloods alongside this gave us 1 in 5 chance of genetic abnormality it was such a worrying time.

I was sent for the NIPT the day after, 1 in 57 downsyndrome & 1 in 750 for Edward's/Patau.

I was then recommended for an amniocentesis which came back clear for any genetic abnormalities.

I am currently 23+3 and have recently had an anomoly scan and all is looking well.

I have been advised to stay at the bigger hospital, under the fetal medicine department and have been given regular appointments with consultant, regular growth scans from 28 wks onwards.

I really hope you are ok, if you need any questions answering I am more than happy to help if I can as I understand the feeling. Sending positive thoughts x

@shrinkingbee thank you so much for your reply the more I’m reading the more positive outcomes I find. I have have the anomaly scan the consultant said everything is perfect for how far I am she can’t se any other signs of abnormalities. It’s my bloods combined with the nt result that are scaring me 1in2 for downs doesn’t sound good.
I get my results early next week from the CVS so hopefully everything is okay it’s such a stressful time it’s all I can think about x

No identical but similar, I had measurements of 3.6mm with DD and went for a CVS, and turned out fine. My scan was also on the later side at 12 weeks 4 days. I did stay under the bigger hospital for additional scans and heart checks just to make sure.
Fingers crossed for you.

oh @Rachelf88 im sorry 💐 Im sure you were holding your breath for some different results. What a tough time for you, what a day xxx

you can still have a lovely life if you have a downs child but equally I understand that also it might not be the life you want to proceed with. Both are completely valid options. It’s not the same but I did consider how life would pan out when I went for my NIPT before the results.

don’t let other people sway you either way. Can you get some counselling? I’m sure there are some free support charities out there. Is DP being supportive xx

ARC are a fabulous charity who were an absolute lifeline in very similar circumstances. Sending best wishes.

@Rachelf88 thank you so much for coming back to update. I hope you come to whatever decision is right for you and your family. There is no right or wrong.

shrinkingbee · 26/11/2024 21:59

@Rachelf88 Ah - the other posters have said exactly my thoughts. I have been thinking of you. I have researched ARC and have been recommended to them by several people, re counselling and further information whichever way you decide to proceed. 🌷
