Baby is breech and doctor has said about c section but also about sterilisation. I have tried to talk to husband who has declined getting a vasectomy!. So feel its all on me. I am 36 and this little boy is my third baby and was unplanned and I reallt don't want to have anymore I have had not a very good pregnancy and also had a few miscarriages which caused me to get very unwell and ended up in hospital and do not want it to happen again. I just wondered if anyone else has been sterilised while having a c section. Thank you

Yes I did, took about five minutes and it is one of the decisions I have never regretted for a second.

If you know you don’t want more children ai would say absolutely.

I don't have any advice but interested in the replies as I am also considering this.

I'll be 42 when I have DD2 so getting on a bit and as much as I would absolutely love a little boy, there's no guarantees and 2 children feels more than enough.

Sterilisation seems so final though and DH is pretty against it (he also won't even consider a vasectomy)

I did OP. I requested it during my pregnancy with my first (and only!)

I had to discuss it with 2 doctors though due to my age (28 at the time) but they agreed with my IVF background so very little pushback. I had more pushback from the midwife when i originally asked about it.

It took around 10/15 mins extra in theatre, didn’t notice any side effects as I was more focused on the c section recovery!

I got sterilised too. Best decision I haven’t had to worry about contraception since. I didn’t notice the extra time to do it i was too busy staring at my boy. Don’t regret I knew my family was complete.

I WISH it had been offered to me during mine - also 3rd baby. It wasn't even mentioned and I desperately want to get sterilised now but no one will do it as I'm "only" 35.

Thanks everyone - very reassuring

I did. It was v simple and the best decision I ever made.

I’m considering it for my third and final c section. But I read somewhere it has more failure rate when done in connection with c section as things are more swollen?

id also be concerned if baby is ill or dies shortly after (heaven forbid) I’ve closed the door on another baby forever

I'm also pregnant with my third baby and having an elective c section next month. I definitely don't want anymore children so have opted for sterilisation at the same time. When I requested it at my first consultant appointment they said yes straight away.

Interesting to hear. Have they spoken to you about if baby is ill at birth or stillborn ?

This thought went through my head as well but I have been told either can have an operation to reverse it, or you could go through IVF. Neither situation is ideal I know but it's not complete no.

Thanks, I hadn’t thought about ivf

@Rumblytumblytea They haven't no, but I have my final consultant appointment next Friday and my midwife said they will want to talk to me about the sterilisation again, so it might be something they bring up to understand my thoughts on it.

I'm 1 week postpartum with my 4th at 39. I got my tubes removed during the c section. I thought I'd feel more upset about it but I absolutely do not want to be pregnant again. I had discussed it during my 3rd c section and opted against it due to the "failure rate due to being swollen" and i guess wasn't 100% sure I was done (obviously now...) but I am feeling more confident since they removed my tubes. Took maybe 10 extra minutes but my recovery has been fine.
