Gestational diabetes and elective section

Hi, wondering what gestation everyone had their elective sections when they have GD and on insulin? And when was this booked? I also have hyperemesis, on a high dose of steroids for this. But apparently this isn’t classed as a reason for an earlier section (even though this pregnancy has ruined my mental and physical health because of the HG). Would it be reasonable for me to ask to book the c section this week (33 weeks) when I have my consultant appointment? More so because having an end date will help me mentally. TIA

Sorry you’re having such a rough time 😕

Slightly different as I didn’t have a section, but I had insulin controlled GD and the plan was for delivery at 38 weeks. I know trusts can differ in flexibility and rules, but pretty sure that they will try to get you close to 38 weeks at least if baby is ok so maybe try and prepare mentally for that if you can.

I’d opted for induction, which was booked 2 days in advance - they said I’d be priority to be induced that day, over those without complications if there was a problem with bed spaces. DD obviously didn’t fancy it and turned up the next day at 37+5. I remember being so worried making sure they knew I’d not be attending for induction 😂

Absolutely reasonable to ask about dates at your appointment - at least if they can’t commit right now, you can ask when they will give you one and you can have that as a mini milestone in between.

You absolutely will get there, I know it feels impossible when there’s still weeks ahead. There’s never been a second that it wasn’t worth it afterwards tho. You’re so nearly there, just make sure your consultant and midwife know how you’re struggling x

Aw thank you for this! 38 weeks for me is Christmas week 😄 2 days in advance seems crazy! I thought maybe they’d let people know at least a few weeks 😅 thank you, I definitely will xx

I was booked in for 38 weeks too when I had gestational diabetes when pregnant with DD. I discussed it with consultant when I was around 33/34 weeks.

I’m booked in for my section at 39 weeks got my date at 34 week appointment there and then, don’t have GD just due to previous section & complications. Just depends on Hopsital policy but they can do it

I always knew they would have me in at ‘around’ 38 weeks following complications in my first pregnancy, then at about 34 weeks that was made a ‘definite’ target after a late GD diagnosis.
My hospital went with giving a rough idea then confirming date at short notice, I guess to try and avoid needing to bump people around too much - yours may have more of a schedule! But in my experience they’re more likely to prefer to plan for a couple of days before 38 weeks rather than 3 or 4 days over if there’s an issue with available dates x
