Just wondering really - there was never any reason given for DS arriving a month early but I would be nervous that it was going to happen again or even earlier...

I live far away from hospitals!!

Not sure. One of my mindees mum had her first dd (mindee 1) 8 weeks early then obviously was worried when pg again and had dd2 5 weeks early (she actually started coming to me around her due date, bless her). Anyway, all was fine. Their mum always worked very very hard rushing around etc. so not sure if this was the reason or if her body just wouldn't go to term?

I'd probably prepare for the possibility - have you spoken to midwife about it?

Hi TST. I went in labour with my DD at 32 weeks luckily the labour was stopped (long story) and she went to term. I am pregnant again and was told that I was very likely this one would come early too. And apparently prem labour seem to be quite common in my family (both my grandma and mum had premature babies). There was no explanation for my DD but I think I was under extreme stress at the time. This time I have decided that the baby won't come early. Don't know if the baby will listen but so far I am 32 weeks and it is staying put.

Unfortunately when I tried to research my chances of BB2 coming early I didn't find much useful information for instance as to what could possibly cause premature labour (except tobbaco and alcohol consumptions or things like that that didn't apply to me). One useful think I read though was that for some reason women who eat loads of fish are less likely to have prem labour. I hope some more knowledgable people will come along to give you advice.

I have had 4 premmies, 35,31,33,33 weeks. no reason given for it, i can't hold onto them for some reason. I would talk to the hospital

Great topic. DS was born at 29+5 and Im pregnant with DC2.

The only explanation I got last time was premature rupture of membranes. Ive not been booked in yet as Im only 7 weeks, but will definately be asking lots of questions.

TheSlightestTeuch · 28/04/2008 10:30

I did read somewhere that BV (bacterial vaginosis? - common infection in women) can cause premature birth but can't find it again .

Thanks fo rthe responses - I'm very early days, so it seems a long way away, but I'll chat to midwife when I get to that stage!

Hi
My DS was premmie at 34 weeks, waters broke at 33 weeks and he hung in there for 1 week, no cause but possible infection was mooted....
I was v concerned when pregnant second time but had fantastic midwives who really helped me and in the end had DD at home water birth 1 day late...
I dont recall doing anything different in either pregnancy so sorry not sure if this has helped you much!
Good luck

I had DS1 at 35 weeks - having managed to halt labour at 25weeks, and was never given a reason except for maybe 'stress'. I was told that DS2 had a 30% higher chance of being premmie as a result, but conventional medicine offered no treatment to try to proactively head it off so at 20weeks I started seeing a naturopath/homeopath and took supplements and herbs etc. DS2 also had a 'vanishing twin' early in the pregnancy. Anyway, following the advice of the naturopath and not overdoing anything - excersize, caffeine etc I went to 39+2 with DS2. I am now 36 weeks with DD1 also taking the supplements etc, but my obstetrician never had any fears, as apparently having had the 2nd baby at full-term negates the increased risk. Full-term is considered from 37weeks until 42. Premmie is only before 37 weeks. HTH Sim

needahand · 28/04/2008 10:54

Aussie same for me, I was told I had high risk of having another premmie labour. And like you I didn't think traditional medicine offered any answers. Thanks for sharing your experience about naturopath/homeopath it is definitely food for thought.

neolara · 28/04/2008 13:14

Not sure about premie babies, but I had both of mine at 37 weeks.

AHLH · 28/04/2008 17:00

Now this was all over 30 years ago, but I was7 weeks early and 3 years later my sister was 3 weeks late. Based on dates rather than scans in those days though. I asked my MW if this would have any influence on the baby I am carrying (my first) and she said no.

VictorianSqualor · 28/04/2008 17:12

DD was born at 32 weeks, DS1 at 39weeks by elcs , so may have decided to come later, DS2 ELCS at 41weeks, again no idea when he would've come.

TheSlightestTeuch · 28/04/2008 17:17

Anything before 37 is premature, I think. DS was 36wks.

He was fine but slow to feed, but I would be worried about delivering earlier than this.

Interesting VS. Perhaps girls are more in a rush to get out?

caramelbunny · 29/04/2008 07:50

I posted a similar question in the premature section and got varied responses. DD born at 32 weeks and I'm now 15 weeks and worried about it happening again. Couldn't get a straight answer out of consultant I saw at booking in but basically as I'd reached the 3rd trimester wont have any extra monitoring this time. Consultant did say that this one was likely to come between 32 and 36 weeks, also said that body tends to repeat what's happened before, but as you'll find from experieces of others some have repeat premmies and others go to full term.

Good luck to you and hope you're sat there at 40 weeks sick of being pregnant!
