Post surgery underwear

I'm due to have my third c-section next month and would really appreciate some suggestions from other c-section mums on the best post surgery underwear.

The last two c sections I've used big knickers and pads but I've always found them to be really uncomfortable on my stomach, so I'm wondering if any of you have used high waisted disposable knickers like the hospital first put on you after surgery. I have been looking at the following:

  • Frida mom c section briefs
  • Mum Bub Hub briefs
  • Tena heavy duty pants (not sure if these would hold blood, but I assume so if they hold large quantities of urine).

I want something really high waisted and also to feel secure. Please tell me what you have used.

Normal seamless knickers. No elasticated seam sitting on the incision so they were still comfy and avoided the need for massive pants sitting really high or digging in anywhere. You’ve had 2 sections so obviously know what to expect but any kind of disposal pant/adult nappy would have been massive overkill for the level of bleeding I had after both of mine.

I just bought the biggest knickers I could find. They came up over my belly button. Seamless and pure cotton as PPs have said. I barely had any bleeding after either of my sections. I’ve got quite addicted to the comfort… I’m still wearing Bridget Jones big knickers nearly 3 years on.

I didn’t use disposable knickers but I got these https://www.johnlewis.com/carefix-caesarean-section-briefs-pack-of-2-white-black/p587769

They went by a different name previously but I’m nearly certain they are the same ones. I liked how ‘put together’ they made me feel. They didn’t hurt my wound.

When I wasn’t wearing these I wore high waisted pants from M&S and didn’t find them irritating at all

I used the big disposable knickers and had no problem at all, will 100%:use them again this time.
I ordered via Amazon but I can't remember the brand, sorry

Thanks so much for your comments.

Unfortunately both times I've had really heavy bleeding, the first one for 6 weeks and the second one for 3 weeks which is why I thought the disposable pants would be ideal.

Tena heavy duty pants are brilliant for those first days when you are flooding, I wish they had been around when I had my c section with ds as I had to change my clothes so many times due to flooding. Once the flow starts to slow down, then swap to pants & maternity pads.

@Nat6999 I'm leaning towards the Tena pants for the first week. Are they high enough to not rub along the wound?

Bleeding wise I think it's different for everyone and also I've heard every pregnancy can be different.
I had nothing at all for 2 weeks after my section then it all came out in one go to the point I thought I was having a massive haemorrhage..... no pants or pad would have been able to contain it, it was a huge amount of blood.
Nothing again after that one time.
If it was a gradual thing, i think the pants are better

Tena heavy duty pants are the best out there!

well it depends on your size but generally yes, they are high enough

@sel2223 ok that sounds traumatic!
Both other times the was bleeding like a really heavy period but I guess this time it could be hardly anything or pretty much the same.
I think I'm going to opt for the pants!

@Tanya87xz that's really helpful thank you. I'm usually a size 12 on the bottom so I assume they will fit me no issues?

Boots Maxi night time pants are cheaper & hold more liquid, they work out 20p a pair cheaper than the Tena ones which if you go through a few pairs a day will soon add up, you can get them cheaper if you buy in bulk.
