Babies and bass - what is okay?

Hello all Just after a bit of advice. I'll be about 8 months pregnant in mid-July, when this excellent event is on. I'd really love to go, but am a bit worried about how all the ridiculous heavy bass noise might affect my baby. Will it go mad? Will it even care? Am I just being a twat, or is there any good reason to be cautious? And if there is, are there any precautions I should take if I do go?

TIA

hmm i thought about that when I was pregnant as well. I dont know the answer though. In my case I never went anywhere I was worried about. But also I dont like crowds especially when I am pregnant as I am worried someone will hurt the bump.

I should think the baby would be fine - they are well cushioned and insulated in there! More of a concern would be whether you'll be able to cope with standing for hours, especially if it's hot. Or would there be somewhere you could sit and still enjoy the music?

I think your baby will be fine. It may respond (kick about more). It will certainly notice I doubt it will go mad or deaf, there is a lot of 'stuff' that the sound has to travel through.
You may want to take a few more breaks than you would normally and stand further back.

You're not being a twat. I remember being pg with my first and going to the cinema to see Michael Moores 9/11 film and getting worried and covering my bump with jumpers and coat during the screamy torture scenes.

Stay out of the pit and don't stand next to the amps. Have fun!

My friend's sister went to a Kasabian gig when she was 7mths preg, but she said that the only thing that happened was that the baby went crazy kicking!! I wouldn't have thought that a one-off thing would be a problem to be honest. I agree with eenybeeny about the crowd thing though, I was at a concert last week and was extra protective of my bump, but it was a bit of a sedate one (KT Tunstall) so not too many people pogo-ing around!!

kayzisexpecting · 28/04/2008 07:22

I am going to 2 concerts but I will be 3 and 4 months. I am going to be sitting though(yeah right) I normally go standing so will find it wierd I think.

I think if you are careful, don't go moshing.

Have a great time!!!

I am having trouble with the internet today and can't open the link, but have gone to gigs right up to 39 weeks pregnant with no problems. I would suggest not getting too close as you probably will want to sit down at least some of the time and are likely to need to take frequent pee breaks.

EffiePerine · 28/04/2008 09:16

You may find that you get very uncomfortable with the kicking if the music is too loud, so just make sure you can leave if you need to . I had to scarper from a restaurant with very loud music because DS was doign gymnastics and it hurt!

I'd worry about you more than the baby tbh. Crowds and being able to sit down are going to be important (and sitting on the ground/getting up again are not that easy when you're 8 months. Do you have a little fold up chair you can get someone to carry around for you so you can sit down if you need to?

I went to a gig when I was about 8 months and the baby did go a bit kick-crazy but he has perfect hearing now. You will get a lot of people giving you strange looks - especially if you dance (or perhaps that's just my dancing )

cyteen · 29/04/2008 09:57

Cool, thank you all It's at the Custard Factory which is quite nice and spacious, also quite easy to escape from if need be, so I reckon I'll just take a folding chair along and plonk myself at the back. DP has advised to get in touch with the organisers as well, he says they're v nice and friendly and will do anything they can to help.

Am still laughing at the thought of me crowd-surfing with a massive bump
