Is it worse or better or just the same as having your hair dyed?

and please not just lots of posts saying 'well I did it and the baby was ok'. I am hoping for links to research or so on

I wouldn't imagine that there would be any research into this its not the sort of thing that attracts reseach funding.

FrannyandZooey · 27/04/2008 21:07

oh darn it you are right
well something other than 'it never did me any harm'?

oh bother

How about some logic along the lines of the fact that the dye on your eyelashes doesn't even come into contact with your skin, so there doesn't seem to be any way that it could get to the baby?

AitchTwoCiao · 27/04/2008 21:56

and it's only on for a teeny amount of time and on a teeny amount of skin if it even makes contact so...

PotPourri · 27/04/2008 22:29

Well I have just done it, so hope someone brings out som research saying it is ok.... That's what waiting around does for you though!?! If this baby doesn't show soon, I will look like a glamour model with new hairdo and perfect skin/manicure/pedicure etc (LOL - as if!!)

FrannyandZooey · 28/04/2008 08:14

yes I was thinking along the same lines
what about the eyebrow stuff though, does that touch your skin?

i agree re: tiny amount of time

but would prefer to err on side of caution I SUPPOSE [reluctant]

in 'What to Expect When Your Expecting' the book says theres no harm in dying your hair, but not to have it relaxed or permed. If it's ok for your head, then it should be ok for your lashes and brows.

Buckets · 28/04/2008 10:03

I'm thinking about getting my lashes dyed the day before my Caesarean (and maybe a spraytan too). There's no law that says you have to look crap after birth! How long does it last anyway?

dizzydixies · 28/04/2008 10:05

I get mine done all the time otherwise would look like didn't have any eyelashes

have had it done in previous two pg and will do this time as well

sorry don't have anything other than that though

FrannyandZooey · 28/04/2008 11:49

well I have blonde eyelashes and eyebrows also, but I use make up

I think there can be harm in using certain hair dyes if they touch the scalp, so I'm not convinced by 'What to Expect' (found it a daft book anyway tbh) but thanks for replies

I would imagine it would be fine, but ask the beautician what is in the dye - it may be alot more toxic/potent than a hairdye. OTOH it may be quite natural etc. Unless it was pretty toxic stuff, the amount that is coming into contact with your skin etc. it tiny tiny tiny compared to hairdye.

FrannyandZooey · 28/04/2008 11:56

yes that's a good idea - I wouldn't understand the answer though, if she gave me the specific ingredients
need science boff to come with me

I'll give Diege a shout...she had some info about hair dye (thus similar, no?) along the lines of "you would have to be steeped head to toe in it for a week"...or something...

And she is some kind of sciencey academic type so she knows these things!

FrannyandZooey · 28/04/2008 13:06

yes please, any info welcome
