So as title really I cooked some sausages that were left to cool then put straight in the fridge and just gobbled them down and a friend just said I am not meant to do this? I knew to avoid cured meats and soft Cheeses and undercooked meat but didn't realise it mean pre cooked cold sausages. Just made m3 worry a bit now?! Advice anyone? Tia xx

You’ll be fine.

minipie · 11/11/2024 12:54

I think if you’d left them in a warm room or left them a week in the fridge there might be a bit of a risk. Yesterday’s cooked sausage kept in the fridge - you’ll be fine. Yum, now I want a cold sausa

MabelMaybe · 11/11/2024 12:55

You'll be fine. Everyone has at least one panic (google McDonald's milkshake and lysteria to see endless panicking pregnant women) but you'll be fine.

Newterm · 11/11/2024 12:55

Food of the gods. You’ll be fine

Donotgogentle · 11/11/2024 13:01

Never heard that rule tbh. Where did your friend get that advice from?

Orangeroses243 · 11/11/2024 13:01

😅😅😅 thanks all, I just had a worry, I guess it's too late now anyway they are in my belly!
At the start of my pregnancy I had bad anxiety with stuff like this and it eased off and then today just had a panic! As per title now 33 weeks don't want to spend the lwdr weeks worrying again🙄
Thanks for your responses xx

@Donotgogentle I didn't ask where, she just said that by letting them cool form hot even putting in fridge then eating them can cause bacteria growth ie listeria to make you and baby sick! Hence I worried ahah x

Is she confusing it with cured sausage? I think there can be a listeria risk with cured sausage

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 11/11/2024 13:10

It's 100% completely fine! It's a cooked sausage! Don't worry.

Singleandproud · 11/11/2024 13:15

Just put it in perspective, we have been making babys forever in a whole realm of environments. Only recently have we developed 'Use by' dates and fridges. You will be absolutely fine, if day old sausages kept in a fridge are an issue we'd never have made it past the stone age.

ElleneAsanto · 11/11/2024 13:17

Listeria bacteria don’t just appear from nowhere. Even if they were in the raw sausages, they’ll have been killed if the sausages were cooked through.

Then any new bacteria can’t have multiplied much if the sausages were refrigerated. Honestly, you’ll be fine.

FlingThatCarrot · 11/11/2024 13:18

You're fine. Don't read too much American advice online. Our food is very different to theirs.

The biggest risks in pregnancy is Pate- due to how its made and salad.

Fyi- you're allowed supermarket sushi in the UK too as its all deep frozen before preparation and high grade fish to start. Biggest think everyone around me talks about missing when there's no need!

Heartbreaktuna · 11/11/2024 13:18

A fully cooked sausage that has gone cold, is not an undercooked sausage. There is no advice prohibiting eating cold food in pregnancy.

StevieNic · 11/11/2024 13:19

What do you think is going to happen?? That a sausage will cause a miscarriage? I often eat sausages from the day before.

Orangeroses243 · 11/11/2024 13:22

@Singleandproud so very true x

Well are you being violently sick OP? Hard enough to start your uterus contracting? If not there is no problem.

Orangeroses243 · 11/11/2024 13:24

@FlingThatCarrot thanks! I actually love sushi and have missed it! - didn't know this x

@Ratfinkstinkypink potentially is by the sounds of things!

Orangeroses243 · 11/11/2024 13:32

@StevieNic no not necessarily, I'm carrying my first baby so sometimes just get anxious. I've always wanted to have a baby and now I finally am and want my experience to be the best it can be and getting others advice is a comfort for me. Knowing this is something that others wouldn't necessarily avoid and haven't done and haven't been sick from means I wouldn't worry or refrain from eating
them again.
You yourself eat sausages from the day before and assume have always been ok from your response so that's nice to know. Thank you.

No need to worry

Sushi has been my craving in last pregnancy and current pregnancy and has been ok!

redgingerbread · 11/11/2024 13:35

Refer to the NHS guidelines - there aren’t very many foods they tell you to avoid in pregnancy. A lot of the info online relates to other countries eg the US where food standards are different.

Orangeroses243 · 11/11/2024 13:36

@CookieMonster28 do you eat sushi then as you crave it? X

At least once a week! X

Orangeroses243 · 11/11/2024 14:38

@CookieMonster28 ah asif, good for you!
My mum said to me that a lot of the advice never existed back when she was having babies and yes be cautious of things but just within reason and sensible ie use by dates, eat food thats are kept fresh and secure.
It's good to be aware of things to avoid and why but sometimes can cause a lot of worry too as its mentioned alot all over nowadays.
X
