Hi all

I've had an ivf in the EU and have been prescribed a blood thinner Clexane injections. My question is how to get it in the UK. I have mutation that shows increased risk of blood cloths but this test was also done abroad. Can I ask my GP for an NHS prescription without having any test done with them . The meds are quite bulky and I can't bring that many boxes with me unfortunately. If I need private prescription can I also get my GP to give me one so at least I can buy it myself?

Is the mutation Factor V?

I had clexane too for FVL, i think you need to speak to the consultant that your clinic is under.

I did get a small amount of pushback from the haemotologist but was firm. Just show them your diagnosis and you should be ok x

My concern is that my test and all was done outside the UK and with the nhs you have ro fight and beg for everything. Not sure they will even check my results

I'm on the same injections, under a different brand name, for a genetic blood clotting disorder picked up by my IVF clinic. I got a report from the consultant at the private clinic just recommending my medication, and passed that to my GP. The GP then gave me a prescription that took me up until my first antenatal consultant appointment (at the booking appointment they will likely put you on consultant led care due to the meds). If you have any issues I would pay for a consultation with a private obstetrician, show them the results and get a prescription from them to tide you over, but it's an expensive drug in the UK (around £800 per month). Good luck, such a nightmare putting all the puzzle pieces together.

Is it Factor V? If it is you can get tested over here surely and then use that dx?

Are you london based? If you can get the meds abroad you could surely fit quite a lot in your suitcase? (Carrying prescription too in case you are questioned)

Hsve you asked your GP to add your diagnosis to your records?
