I was born with a VSD 45 years ago, mine was never repaired. It's never caused me any significant problems, just have regular check ups. Try not to worry, they're more common than you'd imagine x

hi, sorry to read this
my daughter was born with a heart defect called transposition of the great arteries and also an ASD - so a hole but in a different chamber.
my daughters ASD was closed during surgery for the TGA, but this sounds like a very different scenario. An ASD / VSD on its own is much, much less complex in my experience. I know that in many cases, a hole in the heart will close on its own either before or shortly after birth. So it may just be a case of monitoring. Now that it’s been picked up, the next scan should be much more detailed. I highly recommend ‘tiny tickers’ for more info, but it may be best to wait until you have more clarification before googling etc xx

My son was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot following our 20 week scan. This is made up of a large VSD and 3 other defects. A VSD / ASD on it's own is very easily remedied now with surgery, and a lot close on their own. I know it will feel like a huge thing now, but please try not to worry. Take care xx

I have a VSD, I’m 48 so too old for repairs etc which became more common later. It doesn’t cause me any issues. I had regular check ups as a child, now they just check when I visit the GP- if they remember!
I have antibiotic cover before dental treatment and had it before I gave birth. I was given a time limit on pushing at the end, but it was fine and I had a natural delivery.
DS had a scan in utero, I hadn’t passed on any heart abnormalities. He’s been checked since and there’s nothing.
Only noticeable thing is that I qualify for a Covid jab each year.

Can I ask in your anomoly scan were you just told vsd or did they suspect the other elements as well? I don't know what to expect from this next scan if they are going to say there are other issues...thank you for sharing your story!

Thank you everyone I am just so worried the exact wording said " impression of a subtle vsd" I don't know if that means small...I don't know whether to expect additional issues. time will tell but this pregnancy has been such a rollercoster already and after so many great scans I can't believe something came up

It's probably better the issue has shown now, sometimes meds can be given in womb to strengthen baby, and your delivery will be tailored for the best possible outcome for baby, likely with a specialist to hand to monitor at birth. Please don't worry. Lots of us are living examples that this is not life altering x

I was told large VSD and they also couldn't get any views of the right ventricle outflow tract.

Once we were seen by cardiology they said our diagnosis of tetralogy of fallot was the best outcome we could have had considering the original scan results.

Im no medical professional but your scan result sounds a lot more positive than anything we were told. Hope you're doing ok, stay positive. Treatment of CHD is amazing now, even compared to 10 years ago. Flowers
