Hook effect gone?

Just wondering if anyone knows if the hook effect goes away… I had a few tests last week that were faint but when diluted came up as a dye stealer. This week (7weeks pregnant) I’m getting straight up dye stealers but it happens regardless of fmu/smu/tmu. Even if I pee’d an hour ago.

I’m stressing over everything as I experienced 2 losses this year. I have a scan booked tomorrow and I’m petrified of them telling me it’s a MMC. Guess I’m just looking for reassurance to calm my anxiety. I have very sore boobs, short but random waves of nausea, fatigue… I have these symptoms but they’re not major. I’m just so scared 😓

Said gently, put the tests down. You don't need to do more than one to confirm whether you're pregnant. They aren't designed to reassure you re pregnancy viability and they just waste money and increase anxiety. Hope your scan goes well tomorrow.

I know.. and I did! But it only lasted a few days. My anxiety gets the better of me and you’re right, it doesn’t actually make it any better. Thanks for kindly replying 💜

I don't think many people will be able to answer this OP, because most women don't spend three weeks experimenting with dilute and neat urine.
Now you are pregnant, you cannot affect the outcome. If you have been fortunate and you have an embryo that is developing normally, the pregnancy is very likely to continue. If not, it's likely you will miscarry, but you can't stop it happening by doing tests. The only thing tests will do is increase your anxiety. Focus on work, hobbies, whatever. Your mind will wander. Every time this happens, force it back to hobbies. Take up walking while listening to music, or crochet, or do all your Christmas shopping and wrapping early.
Symptoms are not really reliable as a clue. I've had four pregnancies - three with horrendous all day nausea and one with none. It means nothing.

Hugs OP but please put the tests away. They are telling you absolutely nothing right now.

Everything crossed for your test tomorrow.

I know it's hard to be pregnant again after losses. I agree with PPs stop testing and find something else to take your attention away. Try YouTube meditation videos or pregnancy yoga or whatever it is you like so that you are busy.
Good luck with your scan tomorrow!

The hook effect is astonishingly rare. It only occurs when your HCG levels are over 500,000. For almost all women, HCG levels reach a high of 100,000; when you're around 10 weeks pregnant.

Nowhere reputable recommends diluting urine to "game" a pregnancy test, and it's never been shown to affect the hook effect anyway, even if you were one of very, very few people to have experienced it.

In reality, nothing you do now will affect what is going to happen. The tests can't tell you. As someone who has had losses, and chemical pregnancies, I understand that desperate need for information and reassurance, but the tests can't offer any more than they have.

Good luck for your scan tomorrow. Try not to worry about your symptoms. I had absolutely none at all with my first, and he's here and perfect. I had on-and-off nausea and tiredness with my second, and that's absolutely normal too.

I'm sorry you've had two losses.

But gently, OP - no amount of testing is going to affect the outcome.

Tests are very expensive. Put the money into a savings account for the baby instead.

I hope your scan goes well. Is the EPU going to scan you? 6 weeks is very early for a reliable scan.

I’m 7 weeks+3 today (based on lmp) and the epu said to scan at 7weeks so I’m hoping they’ll be able to see something. I appreciate yours and all the responses, I know all of that is true in my head. It’s just so hard to be positive and trust my body when it’s failed me twice already 😓 had so many bad dreams last night… fingers crossed for my scan today

I'm sorry OP. It's so tough after losses. I had multiple too between my two. Counselling taught me a few things, distancing yourself from the pregnancy during this uncertain time is OK. Even if it is bad news, you will be OK. Prioritising yourself and planning some nice things to do takes the edge off the waiting. Best of luck, really hope this works out for you x
