Hi all.
Found out I’m about 3 weeks pregnant. Called my GP and they sent me a referral form to fill out through “ BUMP”.
I called again today to see a dr but they advised you don’t have to and it all goes through the referral and a midwife will contact me. Is this how standard practice? It’s my first time being pregnant so I don’t know what to expect.
many thanks

Yes that's how it worked for me, a midwife will then call you to arrange your booking appointment before you are 8 weeks :)

Yes it's standard practice in most of the UK.

I remember being shocked the first time that they just took my word for it and nobody actually confirmed the pregnancy. You self refer with a form then will get a 'booking in appointment' around 8-10 weeks where a community midwife will check BP, BMI, fill in a medical questionnaire etc. They'll also take bloods.

After that appointment you'll get an appointment for your first scan which is normally around 12/13 weeks.

Early pregnancy is weird, you're basically on your own

Yup sounds right.

Oddly as PP said I thought it was weird that they just take your word that your pregnant and you don't see a doctor but hey ho that's the way they do it now. All through the midwives

Thanks so much all for replying. So grateful.
It does feel weird like I’m left to it on my own. I’ve done many tests to make sure. Just a bit of a scary time.
they said any issues I should called the hosp
