I fell over

I'm almost 42, 19+3 with second baby and I've got myself in a right state after falling over while dog walking.

I fell forwards but think I managed to stop my bump hitting the ground with full force, instead I've got cuts and grazes to my face, knee and both hands.

I've been having dizzy spells lately and BP was the very low end of normal at an appointment last week (90/62). I don't know if that's what made me fall as don't really remember except that one minute I was happily walking and the next I was on the ground.

The dog lead snapped, my dog ran off (a neighbour has since managed to catch him).

Don't know why I'm posting really, i think I just gave myself a shock and hoping for some reassurance about baby x

Your baby is well protected, please don’t worry. What have they said about the low BP?

FinallyMovingHouse · 05/11/2024 08:21

Hi OP, I'm 100% sure that your baby will be OK, but you do need to get your BP checked and explain what happened to your midwife. I was very similar to you with BP at that stage of pg and it does improve as you hit the 3rd trimester. Hope nothing is too sore. x

The only reason I would worry about the baby is if your blood type if rhesus negative and baby's is positive? I think it's rare and you would know about it by now if this applied to you! If so you'll need to let the hospital know and possibly have an anti d injection

I fell over twice when pregnant. Once I stumbled forward over a curb and the other time was pretty spectacular - I walked over a wet wooden board in flipflops and it was banana peel style flip. I am sure your baby is fine. You need to get checked for reassurance and for BP. Take care op.

Get checked out, but you will be fine. I fell forward and actually landed flat on my bump on path when 8 months gone. Got a terrible fright, convinced I'd "broken" my poor baby, but all was fine. She's now 17, with a very normal shaped head!

I'd forgotten about all about it until your post😁

I had a car crash at 15+5 weeks at 70mph and all was fine - nobody from epu or maternity triage even checked me in a and e as at not quite 16 weeks i fell through the cracks of who was responsible for me. They are so well cushioned in there. I had my 16 week midwife appointment a few days later and she checked on baby with the Doppler at the start of the appointment to put my mind at ease, with the caveat that she might not hear anything

I had a fall at 9 weeks in a other pregnancy due to dizziness and they were more concerned by the dizziness than the fall. Do go and get checked out, it's likely that baby is fine but you need looking after too!

Thank you all for the reassurance and positive stories where your babies have been absolutely fine following a fall.
I've spoken to the doctor and am going to get my BP checked this afternoon as can't rule out that I actually passed out/fainted since I don't remember falling.
I do feel a bit sick and lightheaded now but I think that's probably because I got myself so worked up about it.

This pregnancy has just been so different to my first.....I had high BP the last time!

Was there anything they/you could do about the low BP?

Wow, that sounds terrifying and crazy that you wouldn't check you over just 2 days shy of 16 weeks!

With the dizziness, was there anything they told you to do to help? Did it just stop on its own?

Yeah it was a bit nuts. I was told to watch out for bleeding and for movements that hadn't started stopping!

It was caused by the hyperemesis which stopped with the pregnancy the following week

Hi OP - nothing I'm afraid, it's just one of those lovely pg things. x
