I’m only getting stat maternity pay in my job as I’ve been there less than two years. I’m not worried as my husband and I both having savings. Just wondering do you get taxed on stat pay as it will be a lot less than what I normally get?

Yes taxed and, in my job at least pension contributions come out as well

I’ve opted out of pension contributions as HR said I can do that. I also KIT days which I will be paid full amount for. A few have said on here you don’t actually get taxed due to it being a low amount.

I've looked back at my payslip when I was on SMP and I wasn't taxed but did pay NI. Unsure if it was right as my employer at the time regularly messed up my pay whilst on maternity leave . If in doubt, speak with your employer.

So it is taxable but because the amount is below the threshold (once on just £184 a week) you don’t actually pay any tax on it. The first 6 weeks at 90% you will be tax & NI on though and if any of your KIT days take you over then that’ll be taxed

It's taxable but whether you pay will depend on when in the tax year it is, how much allowance is left, any other income etc. If you actually pay tax it will be low

I will start in April so start of tax year
