Hi all, I am 7 weeks pregnant today and finding the morning sickness awful , this is my second pregnancy, suffered mildly with my daughter but nauseous all day and particularly worse at night. Need some advice or hope that this will get better! I feel like a wimp! I work 25 hours a week and have not yet told my work but finding it increasingly difficult to actually do my job effectively , feel like a terrible mother to my 4 year old as I can't get myself to move or play most nights due to the nausea :( some advice on remedies would be much appreciated.

Firstly, look up the Pregnancy Sickness Support website.
Secondly, get a prescription antiemitic prescribed. It's the only way to survive bad pregnancy sickness. Best of luck

I found taking magnesium supplements really helped me through

Have you been to the doctors ? There is anti sickness meds that can help.

Hi OP, I too am in my second pregnancy with a 4 year old (I'm currently 19 weeks).

The sickness and nausea has been so much worse this time round. It started earlier and lasted longer (still going on now although less than it was at its peak). I've also found other symptoms like back ache and insomnia have been worse this time and the sheer exhaustion has been debilitating.

Sorry that doesn't really help but I just wanted you to know you're not alone.

Morning sickness when it becomes extreme is known as hyperemesis gravidarum (unsure on spelling but hg for short) and I've had this a few times.
Make sure your sickness doesn't make you dehydrated enough to require needing fluids at hospital.
Morning sickness can creep from sick ten times a day to 100s of times a day with HG and you'll need medication and visits to hospital for fluids and IV medication until you can keep oral medication in. Some GPs will give suppositories if you can't keep down medication.
It's really tough to get through but I'm hoping that some meds will sort you out. There are different kinds of medication so please don't just accept the first they give you if it doesn't work.
Pregancy sickness really can ruin your pregnancy and if you've got another little one to look after then it needs sorting ASAP.
They say only 2% of pregnancy has HG but I know so many women who have horrific pregnancies because of the sickness, I just think some women are scared to go the doctors for medication because of the fear of taking it when pregnant.
I ended up needing an ambulance in my first pregnancy and when I rang my mum from hospital she kept telling me meds my stop my baby's limbs growing, but honestly those medications haven't been used for decades and whilst there is some risks with any pregnancy and taking medication I know my gp feels very strongly that medication is much less risky than severe dehydration.

Please look after yourself hen x

I would get in touch with your GP early and ask for a prescription of anti sickness medication. My sickness suddenly escalated and having medication at the ready would have really helped. I took cyclizine and it really helped.

The all day nausea is a killer isn't it. I've had that with three kids now. Not sure how you cope really, I suppose you don't really have a choice.
I found actively preventing hunger helped ease the nausea a bit, so basically grazing all day. I ate whatever I felt like, which changed every day. Generally I felt sicker when I was either hungry or too full, so avoid both extremes.
Trouble is everyone is different. You have to find what eases it a bit for you.
I used a lot of TV to babysit my toddlers for six weeks. It didn't do them any harm short-term. Do whatever you need to to get through.

I’m also 7 weeks and going through this too but I’m only vomiting once or twice per day (some days even not at all) so feel silly when it doesn’t come close to at @Lwrenn! What I’m struggling with is the constant feeling of nausea which is debilitating - I constantly feel like I’m on the verge of being sick and even burp or wretch but somehow manage to hold it down. It’s so tough and it sounds like you’re doing so well to look after a 4 year old at the same time because I’m good for nothing right now!

I have told my manager and agreed to work from home which has been a massive help (although I still struggle to get through the day). Could you do the same?

Definitely check out https://pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk - it’s really good with the various medications. Don’t let them fob you off with cyclizine it doesn’t work! I’m on Prochlorperazine and it’s really helping, I actually feel human again. There is good safety data for all the first line medications as they’re taken so much, slight increased risk with the second line medications so they balance it with how sick you are and whether the alternative is more dangerous to the baby. Good luck, it truly is horrendous and making me hate this pregnancy so much (after two MCs so I am grateful to be pregnant I just hate it).

Not silly at all! Nausea is one of the most awful feelings. You have my love and sympathy!
And I've known women lose lots of weight through Nausea with that feeling of being unable to eat/drink more than a sip because of the fear of being sick.

Funny question but what are you drinking?

Often pregancy sickness is triggered to be worse with water and sometimes fizzy drinks, (if you're at risk of gestational diabetes, I've been told a few times from professionals its preferable to dehydration but if possible a zero option) and for sick bodies fizz seems to settle the tummy more than water or milk.

I hate how much pregnancy messes with the body, even straightforward pregnancies takes its toll and I think all pregnant women should be swept off to a hospital with spa facilities, whatever food you can tolerate and all the films you can binge watch whilst receiving massages daily.
I've written to my local MP but she vetoed this plan, sadly 😥
