Pressure in pelvic region

Hey,

I am a first time mum and currently 16 weeks & 3 days pregnant. Today and yesterday I’ve have had like a heavy mild aching feeling down there and in my groin and bum.

I googled it which was obviously the worst thing I could do and it brought up cervical incompetence and now I’m worried!

I contacted my local midwife department who weren’t concerned. They basically said that the baby is growing a lot currently so they can put pressure in that area but if it gets any worse or I have discharge to contact them.

They wouldn’t offer to check my cervix unless I’ve had a LLETZ procedure in the past etc. I asked if at my 20 week scan could they tell if my cervix is short but they advised it would be hard to without an internal scan and they wouldn’t offer it at this stage unless things got worse.

Just looking for some reassurance as I’m a worrier 🤦🏼‍♀️

Thank you x

Hi, cervical pressure is absolutely normal in pregnancy. For me, it comes and goes. Sometimes I'll have a week where it feels like that whole area is so heavy and everything's going to fall out, and the next week I'll be fine. Your body is shifting and adjusting so you're bound to feel some differences. The 20 week scan will be able to identify if your cervix is having issues x

Thank you for your response this makes me feel better.
I suppose gravity is pushing everything down so it is going to cause pressure and when I do lots walking it feels worse.
It sort of feels like a mild ache on my lady bits on the outside of them and my groin.
I should feel better after my 20 weeks scan which isn’t too far away and will mention it to my midwife on Thursday when I’m there x

I'm getting this currently too and I'm 16 weeks as well. What did your midwife say when you saw her?

I've been getting that on and off for a few weeks too, but figured it didn't result in anything so must be alright?! I'm 19 weeks now and going to ask them to see if they can have a look at cervical length at the 20 week scan. When I asked in advance at the last scan they said they wouldn't do an internal scan at 20 weeks but they could get a general idea of cervical length and then if it looks short they might do internal. But I think it's worth asking them to take a look in that direction at 20 weeks, even if they won't do official measurements.

That actually sounds like the start of PGP, it started like that around week 15 for me. Check with your midwife, if it's PGP you want physio
