Pelvic Girdle Pain at 16 weeks, really getting me down

Hello, hoping there must be some positive stories out there?

I started getting PGP on weds, didn't realise what it was and had a few days of over doing it. Friday night and last night I was in so much pain and it's not much better in the day.

I've barely slept, the pain makes me feel sick, have cold sweats and can't play with my toddler properly.

Dreading this continuing for another 24 weeks! I have referred to physio so am waiting to hear from them but I just feel so crap.

Has anybody else got it this early and found ways to cope? Found physio to be a big help? Stressed about how to manage work and childcare until April Sad

Hi I had this and remember thinking I would not cope if it was the rest of pregnancy - after one session with an osteopath who specialised in it it was heaps better. Recommend seeing one privately if you're on a long waiting list and can afford it and/or look up some stretches to do at home. Hopefully yours won't last too long - try to relax and cross your fingers!

You poor thing. Are you sure it's PGP though? I had it very badly and it didn't give me cold sweats, it sounds like you're ill? Do you have a fever?

Either way, if you do have it I highly recommend going to someone privately who specialises, don't wait for the NHS.

I have this too OP and it's no joke at all, I'm 20 weeks. I got a pregnancy belt and it does help a little bit. I'm going to mention it at my 20 week scan on Tuesday and am contemplating a GP appointment tomorrow... although I can see people advising private instead. Just here to say you're not alone xxx

Physio will help. I suffered terribly with this. My first pregnancy was the worst and I didn’t get physio until after the baby was born (unfortunately it doesn’t disappear overnight once baby is born!) Having never been pregnant before that I thought I was just making a fuss, but looking back I was stupid not getting help sooner.

Maintaining a level of activity is important and figuring out what is too much is the key. Physio will give you some exercises to do. Personally I didn’t find the bands any help at all, but pelvic tilts and rotations on the birthing ball was useful.

God I am remembering this pain, it was bloody awful and you have my sympathy.

I’ll be honest and say that nothing really made it go away, but there were things that really helped ease it and make it manageable. Pregnancy Pilates was a lifesaver, as well as the physio. Pelvic rotations on a ball, as a previous PP said. When working from home I sat on some frozen peas and also occasionally used my birthing ball instead of a desk chair.

Movement helped, but there was a sweet spot - too much movement and it was painful.

You’ll work it out, and you’ll get through it - and for me, the pain totally evaporated when I had my baby.

You’ve got this

Twinkletwinklelil · 04/11/2024 07:10

I’ve had it this pregnancy from the first trimester

physio is a must!! Took weeks for me to get seen but the relief from the exercises helped. Try squeezing your buttcheeks when you walk- alternating depending on which leg you move. Sake again when going from sitting to standing,,squeeze and use the power in your bum to help.

but yes go get seen, ask for a support belt too. Helps massively. They’ll give you one that’s way better than any you’ll find online.

SnapdragonToadflax · 04/11/2024 11:23

For me the support belt made me feel sick, but I was suffering with constant nausea anyway so if you're not it might be fine.

I have to say mine hasn't gone away completely, six years later. The awful grinding pain in my pubic bone went after the birth, but I needed physio to strengthen my muscles so they support my pelvis, and if I'm not active enough day to day I find the PVG-ish pains in my thighs and hips come back. I have to re-do my physio exercises regularly to get it to go away (probably should do them all the time tbh).

Also I cannot step over big things anymore - discovered when trying to get over a baby gate without opening it. It makes soft play tricky. Oh and pushing the pram up steep hills hurt when mine was still a baby. Just take care, it's horrible.
