Bloody restless legs!

33 weeks and I want to rip my legs off 😭 as soon as I get into bed, my legs feel like they’ve got electricity flowing through them and I can’t get to sleep because I can’t keep them still, and they feel like they’re going to explode if I try to relax.

I’m so tired 😭😭 anyone have any tips on how to calm them down please?

I feel your pain (literally). I have suffered from them for years and now I’m 10 weeks pregnant they’ve started to get worse so I’m dreading getting further along. All I can suggest that’s helped me is walking as much as you can in the evening (easier said than done if you’re 33 weeks), having your partner stretch them as far as you can for as long as you can just before you go to sleep, and magnesium glycinate. There’s magnesium spray / gel as well but it tingles the skin which I found too much.

Low B1 (thamin), magnesium , zinc and folic acid are all suggested as contributing but basically I'm not sure they know. Youtube has lots of exercise/massage suggestion videos and also mention magnesium as a spray. I'm fairly sure mine is connected to arthritis in my spine blocking some of the nerves in my legs as my chiropractor can relieve it. I think pregnancy could have a similar effect. So a bit like tinnitus the brain starts inventing signals. The vitamins and minerals mentioned probably improve nerve transmission and hence reduce the sensations. I exercise to extend my spine and I try to include foods high in thiamin - wheat germ, sunflower seeds , milled flax seeds but when it is really playing up I take a magnesium tablet then I use a vibrating massager on lower back glutes and thighs just before bed followed up with a couple of hot wheat bags/water bottles mostly to distract from the sensations. Hope that helps. At least you have some hope of it going away in 9 months

Magnesium joint spray. Home bargains sell it. I found out by accident that it calms restless legs enough to ignore it and be able to sleep.

Another vote for magnesium spray! Only thing that stops mine! Does sometimes sting a tiny bit but nothing to bad x

Tonic water helps too

I use the Harrogate magnesium spray, it's works really well and I've suffered for at least 15 years!

MSLRT · 30/10/2024 23:43

Iron tablets. Only thing that helped.

Try magnesium spray with a couple of drops of lavender oil added. It tingles at first but it works. Also try a magnesium supplement an hour before bed. GL.

i Have to sleep with ice mats under my legs but my anti sickness make it worse

I been using compression socks, and they've really helped. Also remembering to take my multivitamins every day.

I found in pregnancy that the slightest drop in my iron levels made me get really bad RLS. Tonic water is good, the quinine in it helps.
