Invited to additional ultrasound

I'm 26 weeks pregnant and this is my first pregnancy. I have a healthy BMI, in my 20's, healthy weight, blood pressure, blood results etc so far for context. I had a midwife appointment last week (at 25 weeks) and I told her I still barely feel movements. They're there sometimes but due to me having an anterior placenta, that big cushion in front of the baby really mutes movements. If I was e.g. talking or cooking, I wouldn't register them at all.

Whilst they were checking the heart rate however, not sure if it's because of the Doppler, the baby kicked twice and moved positions multiple times (as if to avoid the Doppler!). They kept having to try and catch the foetal heart rate on opposite sides of my belly, so they knew it was definitely active.

The midwife said she would add it to my medical notes and forward it onto a consultant, as whilst it is normal with an anterior placenta, it's better to be safe than sorry. Since then, I have been invited to an additional ultrasound (called a foetal growth scan, and a Doppler study) on my letter, followed by an appointment with the consultant afterwards.

Is this something I need to worry about? Or, just the hospital being extra cautious and monitoring me as they knew I can't feel movements properly?

Hiya, congratulations on your baby! It sounds like the hospital are making sure things are ok, I would try not to worry. I had growth scans every two weeks or so from around 28/30 weeks and a Doppler as well. I remember the baby moving as if to push the Doppler out of the way. It is good that things are being monitored and every time you have a scan you get to see your baby again, and maybe get more photos…hope you’re feeling ok and not too worried x

Nothing to worry about, the midwife referred you as she said she would. It will probably give you some peace of mind and check on the position of your placenta.

I wouldn't worry about this. I had an anterior placenta and it was completely harmless just a pain in the arse! Was always in with reduced movements and they'd hook me up to the machine and DS would be jumping around all over the place but I couldn't feel a thing!

I had an anterior placenta in my first pregnancy and had a lot of issues with reduced or no movements - it's normal and nothing to worry about but I know that's easier said than done!
I'd have welcomed any extra scan as my baby was always very active on scans, I just couldn't feel anything!

First movements were the tiniest of flutters around 22/23 weeks and they never got much stronger than that. I really had to stop and concentrate to feel anything at all, never saw feet sticking out or had strong enough kicks that someone else would be able to feel then, never had any pattern etc. It was a stressful time.
By the end of my pregnancy I was on daily monitoring at the local hospital! (Baby was absolutely fine)
