Endometriosis and/or adenomyosis in pregnancy - consultant care?

I wondered if anyone else who has been pregnant despite having endometriosis and/or adenomyosis, has needed an appointment with a consultant during their pregnancy?
My midwife was considering this at my antenatal appointment, I followed up as I hadn’t heard anything and have been advised to organise an appointment directly.
I wondered what other people’s experiences of this have been? I am wondering what can actually be done once you’re pregnant — I would have thought would only be an issue at conception stage.
I’ve had some had experiences with conflicting info and lack of info during my diagnosis/laparoscopy so I’m a bit anxious about it truthfully. I also don’t want to waste anyone’s time.

I’m not sure about specific consultant care but I know someone who was pregnant with adenomyosis and because it increases of certain things like placenta issues, preeclampsia and pre-term labour she did have more frequent appointments during her pregnancy to keep a closer eye on things x

We haven't started trying yet, but at my most recent surgery (I have endometriosis and adenomyosis) I brought up pregnancy to my surgeon - mostly in terms of what to do after surgery with hormones etc - and he mentioned that I wouldn't be under consultant care by default for those diagnoses. But I do think it's common to have more monitoring. I think it depends a bit on area too!

You won't be wasting their time if they have suggested it, and I'd just see it as more reassurance/information for me.

Best of luck!

I have endometriosis and had a laparoscopy. Now 22 weeks pregnant. No appointments with consultant. Only midwife. They have told me they do treat women with endometriosis the same as others.

Hi,

I have been given extra consultations but I’m not sure if it’s because I did ivf or because I had stage 4 endo surgery a year ago. Mine really affected my gut, as well as other things. Maybe it covers both? I am currently 24 weeks and have had no adverse effects so far from the endo, however it’s hard to tell sometimes what’s a pregnancy symptom and what could be endo. If you’ve had surgery in the past it’s probably a good idea to tell your midwife as my consultant was interested to note that I’d had a laparoscopy. Among other things, I had lots of endo lesions removed from my peritoneal cavity, which to me seems important to tell medical professionals in case I end up having a c-section.
