Giving birth with no birth partner

Name changed as outing.

I'm being induced on Friday at 37 weeks due to reduced growth.

Without going into too much detail, the baby's dad is no longer with us. As in, passed away.
My mum was going to be my birth partner but she's now unwell and in hospital

The only other person is my sister who is currently in Australia as her husbands dad is end of life. She said she will come home but no flights until Saturday plus her husband needs her.

I have nobody else. There is nobody on the dads side.

Has anybody ever given birth without a birth partner? I know ill have midwives etc but I know there will be times when midwife isn't with me.

This is my first baby and I'm terrified

I did , my eldest, his WOS father decided to carry on working.

It was fine. Tbh there is so much going on I didn't have time to think about having anyone else there. I think I might have had a midwife to cling on to but I genuinely can't remember.

You will be fine OP, really.

I gave birth alone as a single mum aged 21. I was relieved to be honest. I only wanted to be with the midwife because I was such a mess. I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to witness it.

Thanks for all your replies.
Mackenzie was born at 16.27 on November 1st weighing 7lbs 6oz.

Midwives were brilliant. I wasn't left alone at all.

Oh congratulations!!! He's gorgeous! So glad the midwives looked after you. Bet you are absolutely shattered right now. Are you still in hospital?

DanielaDressen · 02/11/2024 05:33

Congratulations he’s gorgeous, lovely dark hair.

harrietm87 · 02/11/2024 05:38

Congratulations! He is gorgeous!

I came on to say that I didn’t want my DH anywhere near me when I was in labour so every chance you’d feel the same.

Im so sorry for the loss of your baby’s dad. Enjoy your lovely little one!

Congratulations! He really is gorgeous. I'm so pleased it all went well and I hope they're looking after you.

It's hard work being on your own with a newborn but it brings the best out in people - neighbours and friends in my experience and I hope you find some lovely new mum friends to share the next few months and years with xxx

Congratulations! What a beautiful gorgeous baby.
So glad you were supported by midwives. 🌸🪷🌸

Up until the early80s there was no such thing as a birth partner and every woman had their baby without a partner/ friend/ parent with them. I’m sorry you are frightened but you will be ok.

NameChange30 · 02/11/2024 07:20

Awwww congratulations, he is gorgeous!
Hope the birth went smoothly (as smoothly as childbirth can, ha) and that you are recovering well.

malimoon · 02/11/2024 09:12

Congratulations @NoBirthPartner24 glad it went well!! You are amazing!!

NoBirthPartner24 · 02/11/2024 11:20

Thank you. I deliberately didn't say whether I'd had a boy or girl because I wanted to see if you thought Mackenzie was a boy or girl name. Thankfully you got it right!

Mackenzie Benjamin ❤️

From first contaction to birth was just over 5 hours so very quick. Same student midwife stayed with me the whole time. I was well looked after.
Still in hospital but hopefully home later.
