hi guys - just looking for some positive outcome stories if anyone’s been through something similar.

7+5 weeks pregnant today - this morning had some very light blood streaks in discharge when I wiped this morning, spoke to midwife and they’ve booked me in for an easy scan on Thursday 31st. All fine for the rest of the day so thought much better, come this evening and I’ve gone to the toilet because I could feel my underwear was wet and was soaked through with blood, wiped and a lot of dark red blood. Called up the epu as advised to if bleeding got worse and they’ve advised me that it’s likely to be a miscarriage and is easily manageable at home with paracetamol and a hot water bottle? I’m cramping a lot too (feels like a really painful period)

I’ve still got my scan booked for Thursday so I guess I’ll find out then. But has anyone else had heavy bleeding and cramps and had a happy outcome?

im aware of the likely hood just trying to stay positive. thank you in advance x

I’m so sorry. I’ve had 3 mcs in between my two DCs, and I was told in the emergency room that the cramping means a mc. The amount of blood would suggest that too.

8 weeks is an early mc, but you should still have a scan at the end to check that everything has gone. You might have 2-3 weeks of bleeding, like a heavy period at first, reducing over time to very little. Both my first were like that, less bleeding with the second as it was earlier- 6 + 5 I think.

Take it easy, and my best advice is to remember that early mcs are actually quite common. I think I also had two very early ones, at about 5 weeks, as well as the 3 on my medical record. Consultant said he couldn’t be certain just from my description but as I usually had a 29 day cycle, 34/35 day cycles followed by heavier bleeding might well suggest that. My DM had one in between me and DB, and I know several women of my generation who did. All of us have had DC, either before, after or either side. One early mc at 8 weeks does not mean you won’t have DC. In my case, I had DS2 at 40 after 3.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I’m really sorry to hear about your losses🩷 I’m still going to attend the scan tomorrow even though I’m certain of the outcome. Good to hear I’m not alone in this though. Thank you x

Hi OP, how are you doing? Good luck for your scan today and let yourself feel all the feelings - you don’t know until you know, either way. I recently had an early miscarriage at 5 weeks and even with a negative home pregnancy test, had to go through with the EPAU visit to hear it confirmed. It’s a horribly difficult thing to go through, though sadly very common. I will keep my fingers crossed for you xxx

Good morning, not feeling so good today - woke up with my pad covered and the cramps are still there and aren’t going with paracetamol. The scan is tomorrow sorry I wrote it in the middle of the night as I couldn’t sleep. But thank you, ill
keep this thread updated in case anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation. Thank you very much for your comment I appreciate it massively, ever so sorry for your loss too🩷

Yes, I’d also describe it as horrible to go through - but common, unfortunately. Some women go through a period of deep grief and like to do things to mark the loss. Others try to move on from it quickly - there’s no right or wrong. You do what works for you.

Personally I found it helped me to recognise how common they are and not to see it as a disaster - but I understand that others might see that as a ‘cold’ response. Everyone has to deal with it in their own way.

Unfortunately for me my heavy bleeding was a miscarriage. It started as spotting on a Tuesday evening, then nothing until Wednesday lunchtime and by mid afternoon it was so heavy I had to sit in the toilet. I think this was when I passed the pregnancy. I was going through night pads in an hour. For 3-4 h then it went to period levels. I had a scan booked for Thursday morning but presented at a and E on the Wednesday evening as directed by ooh on Tuesday when it was very heavy. They ran some bloods to check my HCG for the pregnancy and my haemoglobin for the blood loss. They said it was unlikely that my haemoglobin would be low enough to warrant being kept overnight to wait for the scan as I was looking fairly normal and talking and what not. The next day I had an internal scan at the epu and unfortunately there were no signs of pregnancy. They repeated my HCG and it had halved in 15h. It was my first scan in the pregnancy, I was 10 weeks they said at 10 weeks it would have been very obvious if there was still a pregnancy so I this scan was conclusive. Had I been earlier in my pregnancy they might have assigned it as a pregnancy of unknown location and rescanned a week later.

I had my HCG monitored after 48h and then once a week until it was below 20 then I had to do a pregnancy test that week to see if it was negative. This was 3 weeks after the miscarriage. I have spoken to quite a few people about there miscarriage and I don't think anyone else has this.

This was in August and this week I got a positive test, hoping for a different outcome this time. The epu told me to let them know when I'm 6 weeks in any subsequent pregnancies and they will offer me an early scan and progesterone.

Good luck tomorrow x
