I’m 11 days away from my period and had this when i wiped a few times, nothing on my underwear though.

Is this implantation? Has anyone had this?

my period isn’t due for ages yet. I don’t spot at this time in my cycle.

Not sure why people post if they don't like the advice they're given Blush

SkylarH · 29/10/2024 17:45

To be fair to OP, the advice is off.

Luteal phase is often 14 days but by no means always.

Mine was 10-11 days while breastfeeding and obviously there are people who have longer LPs too.

If a midwife is telling a woman they couldn't possibly ovulate 17-18 days before their period, it's just wrong. Good lesson here, the textbook isn't always right.

I have pinky/brown discharge around 9DPO each month, it’s not always implantation (which is frustrating).
my consultant said it’s either cervix irritation from sex or hormones related - big drops can result in spotting.

Quaver9 · 29/10/2024 19:14

I always assumed your cycle can be regular (mines 28 days usually) but ovulation day can differ month to month.
I use ovulation tests every month and it can be early, dead on, late but I still have 28/29 day cycles.

Women menstruate 14 days after ovulation, unless conception has occurred.
I'm a midwife, OP. I'm honestly trying to help you, but you don't seem to understand the menstrual cycle.

This is totally inaccurate. Your luteal phase can be any length. Usually it’s around 14 days but mine is 12.
OP - it could well be implantation bleeding. I had two dots about 9dpo if that helps. Good luck!

@TheShellBeach With respect, you may want to do some research on luteal lengths. Anything between 10-17 days is normal. You can ovulate on cycle day 11 of your cycle for example and have a luteal length of 17 days and have a 28 day cycle. Likewise you can ovulate on day 17 of your cycle and have an 11 day luteal phase and have a 28 day cycle. I usually ovulate around day 16 and have a 12 day luteal phase.
Again - with respect, being a midwife does not make you an expert in fertility. Babies and pregnancy yes of course.

Luteal Phase Of The Menstrual Cycle: Symptoms & Length

The luteal phase happens in the second part of your menstrual cycle. Issues with the length and timing of your luteal phase can affect getting pregnant.

And just on this - you can have delayed ovulation and ovulate on any day of your cycle (some people even ovulate during their period!). Your luteal phase does not really vary (though I did manage to extend mine from taking vitamins for conception). So for example you’ll see lots of women asking why they don’t have a positive pregnancy test when they are a week late. They likely ovulated a week late and so by default their period will be a week late. 😊

sofiamofia · 29/10/2024 19:42

Just backing up the OP and other posters who say that it is not always the case that women ovulate 14 days before their period. You only have to have a look at the infertility boards to see lots of examples of women with shorter/longer luteal phases.

If ovulation was 14 days before menstruation, why would women ever need to use OPKs?

Redplenty · 29/10/2024 20:55

The luteal phase is normally very similar each month, the follicular phase can vary (changing ovulation date and cycle length) but you can't just count backwards 14 days from a period. My cycle is 29 days. I ovulate on day 18 or 19. Definitely not 14 days left after that.
