Hello all,

I'm new here and looking for a bit of community support as I'm starting IVF in 2 weeks. I'm currently conflicted about whether it's sensible to do flu and COVID jabs this close to starting? Kicking myself for not doing them a couple of months back but there's no good time when you're TTC eh?

Also would very much love to hear some positive IVF stories if anyone has any 🙏🏻

Thanks so much!

My local pharmacy only started doing flu and covid vaccines at the start of Oct so even if you were organised you probably would only has them a couple of weeks ago so probably wouldn't have significantly changed your situation.

Sorry I don't have experience of IVF but I had my flu & covid vaccines a few weeks ago and got a positive test result yesterday. I had the flu vaccine a few weeks before conceiving my daughter - annoying on both cases as I pay for my flu jab and could have got them free!

It might be worth asking your IVF clinic or your local pharmacist for specific advice. The benefits of risk might not just depend on vaccine Vs IVF but also you personally getting flu /covid alongside IVF. Usually it takes 2 weeks to get immunity from the vaccines.

Best of luck with your IVF journey. I hope someone comes along with more experience!

I think it is perfect timing to do it right now. Your body will get over the immune response by the time you start the treatment.

Good luck and lot of strength for IVF. I had a two unsuccessful cycles, and one succesful. My tip would be to try to do 3 cycles if possible as a lot of it is about odds.

I got the flu two days after embryo transfer the first time round. Obviously people conceive whilst sick and it was a low grade embryo - but it is incredibly difficult not to wonder if the outcome might have been different if I hadn’t been seriously unwell. It was horrible knowing I was out without ever really having a chance .

Many clinics will cancel transfers and egg retrievals if you have a fever and it would be heartbreaking (and expensive!!!) to get that far and then have to cancel last minute.

Thsnkfully, I’ve gone on to have two successful transfers but there is no way I’d risk that happening again.
