Running in pregnancy

I know this has been asked before, but I can only find info on people who were 'proper' runners before getting pg, so I thought I'd ask...

I enjoy running (well, jogging slowly) and started up again before I found out I was pregnant. I'd like to carry on for as long as I can, but wanted to make sure I was doing it safely. I run 3 times a week for about 30 mins and am working my way up (slowly) to running 20-30 mins without a break (currently having 3 2 min breaks to rest). I assume if I avoid getting too hot or too breathless it's fine? Only about 4 or 5 weeks pg atm.

I carried on exercising in the first pg (in the gym) until about 6 or 7 months althoug I stopped running earlier - can I continue as long as I feel comfortable, which would prob be around 6 months?

Anyone out there who isn't mega fit and running marathons but still exercising in early pg?

i was a keen runer before i got pregnant but had to give it up due to morning sickness and tiredness, now that i'm feeling better, i just don't feel comfortable running as it hurts my breasts! I'v asked the insructors at the gym about it and they say its best not to do any exercises that jar after the 1st trimester, however, people do run, right up to the day they give birth, i'm a firm believer in listening to your body, if it makes you uncomfortable, then don't do it. From the baby's side, they are well cushioned in the amiotic fluid and surrounded by strong muscle, so unless you have been advised not to run by your GP, you won't be harming your baby. You just have to take it slowly. Paula radcliffe did, nell mcandrew did and so did gwen steffani, right up until the day she gave birth! I find low impact exercise much better for me now, such as the bike and the cross trainer, where i'm not jarring myself!

right, will carry on till I get too uncomfortable

Am conscious that I am not as fit this time round and want to make sure I can still move by the 3rd trimester!

I have never run a marathon, and wasn't mega fit, but I did run through early pg with DS2. I had to, I had dreadful constipation, and running kept things moving.

I found running started kicking off very bad round ligament pains, though in the second trimester, and had to stop (kept biking, though). I think as long as you listen to your body, you will be fine.

ATM it seems to be keeping MS at bay and giving me some energy, so will def carry on
