Prednisone - When did you start taking it

Hi all, just wondering, for those of you who were prescribed prednisone but weren't having IVF, when you were asked to take it from, from ovulation or on getting a BFP and was it successful.

I took it with my current successful 36 week pregnancy (two previous miscarriages). I was advised to take it from positive test which ended up being 8dpo - got a very very faint line! I was then instructed to taper off by 12 weeks.

Thank you for replying cirillaofcintra and huge congratulations on your current pregnancy, not long to go now! I was hoping someone might say this. If I do need to take it I am hoping they think that's how I should do it to. I'm not keen to be on it every month from ovulation because I obviously dont know how long it will take us to conceive again. Do you mind me asking why they put you on it? Ie, was there anything specific they were trying to treat that they thought was causing your miscarriages.

Thank you! I went on it (along with progesterone, aspirin and some supplements) after a private fertility consultation following 2 miscarriages (the NHS said they wouldn't do anything until 3+ losses). I have a 3 year old daughter who we conceived with no problems, but struggled with #2. I've had autoimmune issues in the past which I think is why the consultant added in the steroid - in case my immune system was attacking the early pregnancies. We have no idea if (or which one of) the meds did the trick - the losses could just have been bad luck - but everything has worked out well. :)

I wouldn't want to take it every month 'just in case' either as it's fairly strong stuff and can cause bad insomnia. Just a tip if you do end up taking it - take it as early as you possibly can in the morning (I set an alarm for 5/6am and took it then) so it's worn off by bedtime. I started off taking it at 9/10am and had very disturbed sleep. Didn't get any other side effects though, thankfully.

Good luck on your journey.

I was asked to take it at time of ovulation and do a test at dpo 10 and if negative to stop if positive to continue and taper off 12-14 weeks. It worked after 3 consecutive misc and now I'm 10 weeks pregnant and following the same regime (plus other immuno regulators and medicines). I had and have total trust in my Dr though so just followed the advice religiously. Also had a lot of testing beforehand for them to put me on that regime. Good luck! Xx

Fabulous news, congratulations california22 and I wish you a healthy, happy pregnancy. I guess I will have to see what my consultant says once tests are done. We are about to have our first consultation but I have a feeling I may well have to take pred, maybe along with other medications possibly (long story). I'm just excited to actually have a chance to find out what my likely issue is/are. If I am told to take the pred I will obviously be taking it exactly as prescribed. Just dubious about how long it may take me to conceive again so how many times I will be stooping and starting it. Still, will just have to do what I'm told x

After four miscarriages I was prescribed progesterone and prednisolone both from
Ovulation, stop if no positive test after 10dpo. This got me my wonderful daughter after 4 mc.

Ooh that's wonderful and congratulations to you. So lovely and inspiring. Thank you for saying. X
I have realised that I forgot to hit the send button on my last post here. I got prescribed prednisone, as I suspected I would. I was originally instructed to take it from a positive test and was supposed to have an intralipid infusion as soon as I ovulated and then two or three more infusions during my pregnancy but I am allergic to an ingredient in intralipids so my doc wants me on the pred from ovulation. Continue if I get a positive test or stop if not.

Just wanted to ask if anyone had any more positive stories about pred taken from a positive test. I am testing this weekend but I think I am likely to be starting another cycle. If 'm right, This will be my eighth since my last Chemical and my fifth cycle on pred from ovulation. While I am coping with the pred I am now gaining weight m despite a very healthy diet and I wasnt tiny to start with. I am also aware if the long term side effects of the steroid and feel that I should possibly have a break from the constant on and off it each cycle.
