subchorionic hematoma 6 weeks panicking

Hi, Ivf pregnancy diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma yesterday at an early scan, the lady scanning has described it as Significant subchorionic bleed noted anterolateral to the gestation sac measures 25.8 x19.8 x 15.1 mm.

Looking for any similar stories? Embryo had a heart beat which was of course encouraging!

No bleeding so far in this pregnancy but alot in precious pregnancy (also ivf) with SH diagnoses, although I don't think it was noticed this early but I def did lose big clots around this stage

Feeling very confused and worried! Have referral to EPU so hoping they can put my mind at rest.

Lady scanning yesterday didn't give much information ag all.

Thanks

Sorry you’re having this worry. I can only speak to my experience in that mine only became apparent when I suddenly bled really heavily at what I thought was around 7 weeks (scan showed it was closer to 11). Was on holiday at the time and went to hospital where they scanned and confirmed SCH. Can’t remember the measurements but it was significantly larger than the gestation sac and, despite baby seeming fine in there, I was told to expect the worst. Bled heavily until around 25ish weeks with regular scans throughout showing baby was just fine in there. Super stressful and I was convinced that even if we made it to term, baby would have suffered in some way.

Anyway, long story short - he’s 7 now, perfect in every way (annoying too!) and all was well. At the time I posted on here and had lots of lovely messages from people who’d had successful pregnancies, so (as easy as it is for me to say) try not to worry too much as there’s nothing you can do now to influence things either way. Try to rest and relax but that’s more for you than for baby.

Wishing you well, happy for you to PM if you have any questions.

Hi, I’m also an IVF pregnancy. I had a SCH that measured 13.7 by 8mm at 8weeks 3days. Found in a private scan I had after a tiny bit of spotting. I went to EPU a couple of days later and it had reduced in size quite a bit. By 10weeks 3days it had gone. I’m now 14 weeks and everything looks great. A few things I was told along the way by doctors:

  • SCHs are very common in IVF pregnancies.
  • if you’re taking blood thinners (I had enoxoparin injections) this can make them more likely, they could tell you to stop them for a while if you are.
  • its blood so it moves around and is absorbed, so it might be big on one scan and then have somewhat dissipated a few days later.

The only other advice is basically to take it easy so you don’t exacerbate it. Ie don’t lift things or bend over loads and no exercise beyond gentle walk.

Easier said than done but try not to panic, there’s a good chance it could all work out fine.

Hi, I’ve had these in both my pregnancies. With my daughter it was relatively small and had disappeared by the 12 week scan (must have re absorbed as I didnt have any vaginal bleeding) I’m currently 12 weeks with my second and I had a very large SCH found between 5-9 weeks. I don’t know the exact measurements but during the scan around 5/6 weeks the bleed was absolutely huge - way bigger than the sac!! Again I didn’t bleed and have just had my 12 week scan and they could not see it!! Hope it all works out for you xx

Thanks all, good to hear some positive experiences! Fingers crossed at next scan (tomorrow) it's reduced and or I can find out a bit more
