Bits of baby very low down/sticking out of me in the night - normal at 19 weeks?

Hi all

Last night I woke up to find a funny bulge in the left hand side of my groin, low down in my bikini area. I pushed it back in gently and thought no more about it. However, I mentioned it to my husband today via email and he thought it sounded odd, so I mentioned it on another baby forum, expecting to be told it was normal so I could reassure him, and they seem to think that feeling LO so low down and so early on is a bit odd. Now I am worrying a bit!

I have a doppler and the heartbeat is always very low (level with the top of my pubes) and I am still getting up in the night to pee (usually once a night but three or four times the past few nights) so I've just assumed that that is where he likes to hang out. Should I be worried that he's so low down or that bits of him are sticking out?

I've heard the heartbeat today and felt some movements too.

Thanks for any advice/info

RW x

I would have thought it was more likely to be piles in your parts (sorry can't think of the proper term for it but basically varicose veins). If you are worried ring your midwife

callmeovercautious · 24/04/2008 17:46

Could you have a Hernia? I would definately go to the Midwife.

blinkingthreetimes · 24/04/2008 17:47

I think it sounds like varicose vains I had them around 19 weeks

RainyWednesday · 24/04/2008 17:47

It went away when I pushed and it's a bit of an odd place for piles!

Urk, I have no idea how to call my MW and I'm stuck at work until half eight. Meh

I will try to give them a call.

I don't think Rainy means things are sticking out of her parts! It sounds to me like your womb has emerged from the pelvis IYSWIM and your bump has now officially appeared! It's the bump rather than the actual baby that your feeling I should think.

If your worried though I'd speak to your midwife/GP.

Thanks for the replies

It seemed a bit low for a bump tbh - it was around the level of my pubes. I thought the baby had just settled down there with its head or foot or something poking out - I thought it was totally normal until I mentioned it and everyone else thinks it might be worth worrying about!

The bulge that was there last night went away when I pushed it back in (again why I thought it was baby). Now though the whole area (essentially the bit covered by my pubes) feels a bit tender, and a bit as though I have a heavy weight or something in there.

Just called my hospital and got put through to the maternity ward because the antenatal clinic closes at 5. I was told off for speaking to them because I'm under 20 weeks and was told that if I'm worried I can either go to A&E now or wait and go to my GP tomorrow.

Now I don't know what to do It is tender though not agonising and it does feel odd and unlike other pains I've had, but then this is my first pregnancy and everything feels odd! Hubby will be on the tube and out of contact for another half hour ...

Go see your GP tomorrow

NineUnlikelyTales · 24/04/2008 19:11

I would think seeing your GP tomorrow would be fine. Sorry the hospital were so nasty to you

Sounds like it might be a hernia - does it pop out if you cough?

TwilightSurfer · 24/04/2008 20:24

Rainy, I'm 23+5 weeks today and I have had little hands (i believe) pushing around really low for several weeks. When I say low I'm mean low...like the baby's reaching to grab my lady garden...low. It all started with a lot of heaviness, like the baby was just going to fall out. Comparing notes with others on my due thread was great because others felt the same way. It's even been confirmed by at least one that that means the baby is head down. As for gently pushing the "bulge" back in...I did the same thing in the beginning. It was on my left side, then the baby got situated and now the punching is on my right side but with less buldging. I think she's comfortable now.

If you're still worried, seeing your doctor is always best but I think you're probably all right.

Best Wishes

I'm 22 weeks and for the last few weeks the baby has been lying really low down and when I lie down on my back and she sticks either head or bottom against the bump I can feel and see a bulge there. I know it's the baby because if I push gently I get kicked =) So it's not impossible it's the baby at all.

eandz · 24/04/2008 21:22

aww, thats sooo cute sassafrass!

slinkiemalinki · 24/04/2008 21:26

I wouldn't worry Rainy - worth getting checked for your peace of mind, although I am around your stage and feeling little movements pretty low down (hopefully it is the baby in my case and not wind )

Sassafrass · 24/04/2008 21:27

Must admit I sometimes lie on my back just to annoy baby and make her kick =) Other times I just wish she'd go to sleep so I can sleep as well.

poppy34 · 24/04/2008 21:34

rainywednesday - remember feeling baby shift a lot and sometimes waddling/having difficulty walking (feeling worse than I do now at 32 weeks plus). It would shift to one side or really low down and I was very worried that something wrong with way I was carrying baby. but it got easier as I expanded and so did the bump so does mean you lose the delightful too much shopping in the bag feeling.

Sorry for you about hospital - that is not a very good way to treat anyone .

eandz · 24/04/2008 21:41

sassafrass--

sorry i have to do this, but...

awwwwww! cuteness!

RainyWednesday · 24/04/2008 23:05

Thank you so much - that's really reassuring to hear (and cute!).

Ended up leaving work early and coming home in a panic for a big hug with DP and a chat about what to do next. I felt better than I had done earlier, so went to bed for an hour and woke up feeling a lot more comfortable and positive

Have also just checked the heartbeat again (first time I've ever used it twice in one day - I am usually very disciplined about not doing it to often, honestly!) which was fine and LO took a kick at the doppler, which always makes me laugh

Thanks again x
