Has anyone tried them? If so what did you think?

I'm thinking of getting the relaxation one for the time being (I'm only 17 weeks) and then the birth preparation one nearer the time. If you used the birth prep one, when is a good time to start using it? I'm assuming it's too soon for me now.

I bought them and found the relaxing one quite good, but more because it was quite nice to just turn off the lights and have some time to myself. I'm not convinced I was 'hypnotised' in any way but the breathing practice and relaxation techniques are definately beneficial.
I'm pretty sure you can start it at any time in your pregnancy as it really is more about learning to relax and breath - useful at any time!

I'm 36 weeks and have been using the birth prep one but I'm still not convinced I am being hypnotised (but that's probably because I am a total cynic!) and in fact I have fallen asleep every time I've listened to it.

I know a lot of women swear by these CDs on MN and they certainly seem to get a good write up, you've got nothing to lose, maybe buy the relaxation one first and see how you feel?

I've been using the relaxation one (I'm 23 weeks) and I agree that I never feel quite hypnotized. I once tried some free hypno CD's by Paul McKenna and the feeling was VERY different - like I went way under, into a different kind of mental space. Like almost asleep but really suggestible. And I started to fancy him afterwards when NO WAY IN HELL did I before, so I think it was the real deal. Cunning git..

With the Natal Hypnotherapy ones I feel calm but nothing special, I'll change position or fidget and just generally be myself but lying down with my eyes closed.
But hey, perhaps they will help I'll let you know in August as my baby is due then, haha.

I used the birth preparation one before DD was born. I think I fell asleep every time I listened to it.

Genetically I have good child bearing hips and a family history of fairly fast, straightforward births. DD was born in about 7 hours from 1st contraction and weighed in at 9lb 12. I used a TENS machine for the 1st stage and nothing for the 2nd. I wasn't "bearing the pain" - I genuinely didn't feel any pain (I won't say it was all comfortable, but there were only a couple of contractions going into transition when I had a real wobble). I remember feeling very calm and very aware throughout the labour and birth, and very focussed on breathing! Although I didn't feel in control of what was happening, I didn't feel totally out of control either - more like I was going along with it.

Did the CD's help? Haven't got a clue! But they certainly didn't hinder, and (as Fleurie says) if nothing else it's a good excuse for a quiet time every day
