I have been ill and I have been prescribed the following by a doctor in the hospital
A quick Google search says they are not suitable for pregnancy ?
Stemetil and promethazine
Thoughts please I am nearly 11 weeks pregnant

Depends where you do your googling.
A very sensible resource to use is "bumps" best use of medicines in pregnancy.

I’d avoid googling and just look at those medicines on BUMPS (best use of medicines in pregnancy)

If the doctor is aware of your pregnancy I'd follow their advice

Assuming the doctor was aware of your pregnancy, they would have weighed up the risks to the baby vs the risks of you being ill (which can also carry risks to the baby), and decided that the benefit of you taking the medication outweighs the risks. You can also get prescriptions for smaller doses.

The Bumps website is a good place to check. www.medicinesinpregnancy.org/

There is also the FDA categorisation of medications, which is used in the US. These medications are category C, which means that risks to the baby cannot be ruled out, but that they may be prescribed if the benefits outweigh the risks. Worth bearing in mind that the FDA categorisation has a higher threshold of evidence than other countries, and it seems that in other countries they are more commonly prescribed during pregnancy.

If you are still really worried about it after reading up on it, you can always ask for a follow up appointment.

They are both used a lot in pregnancy for vomiting.

Most meds aren’t recommended in pregnancy because the evidence isn’t there.

it’s a risk benefit scenario for them all.

have a look at bumps. They are both common meds.

I'd also look at the breastfeeding network drugs factsheets above any GP's advice too once baby arrives.
