Low PAPP-A and HcG - 1:413 chance of Edwards/Patau

Hi,

First time posting and looking for advice/reassurance.

When I had my daughter 3 years ago my risk for Edwards/Patau's was very low - something like 1 in 15,000. This time it's come back as 1 in 413. I also received a call to say I have low PAPP-A (0.31) and low HcG (0.26).

Whilst it's still technically low risk, I'm quite concerned that the odds are so different from last time so I am looking into getting NIPT privately. I don't really know where to start though - there are a few different types. Can anyone recommend the test they had? And how long did it take to come back?

I would also love to hear from anyone who had similar results to see what their outcome was.

Thanks

Not a medical professional but I know risk increases with age and you are 3 years on, how old are you? Can your Fetal Medicine Unit advise you further? Could be worth putting in a call. Good luck

I was high risk for the same / decided on the test (can’t remember the name, but the one where they use a big needle and there’s a risk of miscarriage).

they got the needle ready and then the doc came in and said that the 12 week scan images showed a perfectly healthy baby and if it was Edward’s they’d see abnormalities and as they hadn’t they didn’t want to risk harming a perfectly healthy baby with the test so advised I wait for the harmony test and 20 week scan.

So pleased I listened - all was well. Was your scan ok?

I'm 32 so I don't know if that makes a difference. Thank you, I didn't really ask much when they called as was I think I was just a bit shocked. I'll call them to see if they can recommend what testing I can get done.

Oh this is really reassuring as they said my scan was fine. Thank you. Did you have the harmony test? What were your results?

ok that’s really reassuring if scan all looked good. They said basically the abnormalities with Edwards would be apparent by the time of your 12 weeks. I did have the harmony but was impatient to wait for the results so initially decided to have the csv to find out sooner but was pleased the doc pushed for me to wait for the harmony which was all good. She said she had seen babies miscarried as a result of the csv and that freaked me out.

the numbers can make you worry, I cried all night when first got told at the 12 weeks scan, but it really is reassuring if the first scan is looking ok. Obv you’d have to wait for the harmony to know, how quickly will that come back?
