Pregnancy & cervical ectropion/colposcopy

Hey!

Currently 17 weeks with my second boy!

Had the weekend from hell! On Saturday I'd just finished tidying the house and I felt a gush. Genuinely thought my waters had gone but I was actually bleeding. This bleeding continued for around 15 minutes, full flow, clots after clots... as you can imagine it was terrifying and I thought it was all over.

Obviously went to MAU where they scanned me and to my shock baby was absolutely fine and totally oblivious to the chaos. They did a cervix check and at first I was told I was dilating and there was nothing they could do, I was yet again devastated. Senior doctor came in to give a seccond opinion and he said I was infact NOT dilating at all and I actually have cervical ectropion! And another scan showed I have low lying placenta that could be the cause of the bleed.

I had cervical ectropion with my previous pregnancy with no issues or bleeding. This time is different as they have referred me to colposcopy as he said the ectropion didn't look "typical"

Now I'm so worried there's something worse going on! Has anyone else had a colposcopy because of a CE?

I'm only 24 so I haven't had a smear yet.

Sorry posted too soon above. I had a scan just before 12 weeks with my DD and it showed an englarged uterus & they found after that I had a cervical ectropion. Also the same as you with a low lying placenta, they told me to stay clear of sex & that it could cause bleeding! I was told I'd be referred for further testing but they decided not too... I have since had further testing done 2.5 years later and some treatment on it but still waiting any results.

fingers crossed it comes up as nothing for you🤞🏼

Hey there, sorry to hear your stressed with this - I have had that procedure due to CE and it was due to my1st smear and a visit to docs about bleeding that found it - any activity sexual related can cause bleeding with CE as the cells on the inside of your uterus start to grow out and onto the cervix and it becomes so senstive just...at the time the doc described it to me in a nice simple way, he said 'if you look at your lips on your face they have a different texture and then if you pull your lip out the skin on the inside and your gum is totally different, and the cervix and uterus is the same'... he said it was likely hormonal changes had caused it over the years and the procedure just took care of it and took it all away... hope all goes ok for you, try not to worry xx
