I have been advised it might be contraindicated in pregnancy cos of bringing on early labour, but tbh I'm not to worried about that at 39 weeks....bring it on I say!!
Any advice??

I asked my GP about senna and he said it is safe to take in pg, so did the midwife. Also on the pack there are no contraindications for pg.

I've taken this twice now with no problems.

Sorry if this is condescending but can you add fibre to your diet? I had terrible constipation first time round but this time not at all (I often go twice a day!). I eat 6-8 slices of wholemeal bread a day plus three pieces of fruit and then a couple of portions of veg with dinner. But I really think it is the wholemeal bread that does it. It really seems to do the trick!

Thanks neenza, not condescending at all, but I already have a very high fibre diet, always have done. Massive bowl bran flakes for breakie, wholemeal bread, lots of fruit, berries, apples, pineapple, grapes etc, and try and do 2 litres of water a day. I'm just wondering if because I am 39 weeks pg it might have something to do with pressure of baby on my bowel???? I have never suffered with constipation in pregnancy, just in the last week or two.

Thanks to others who have said it's ok to take.

GCG - I have been taking it daily throughout both my pregnancies with no problem - unfortunately it didn't trigger anything last time and I ended up with an induction (although had been able to poo regulary throughout PG!)

Is it a bit wrong for me to be getting excited at the prospect of doing a decent poo now that I know I can take this senokot?!!
It really sorted me out after not going for over a week after birth of DD, so I have faith....

I have some left over from then, but no box, how many do I take??? Is it best to take them before I go to bed or in the morning??

Thanks peeps!

take two preferably at night - don't forget to drink plenty of water too

after hearing my friends' traumatic first-constipated-poo-after-childbirth story - I also started taking lactulose a few days before I was induced - no idea if it's really recommended but I didn't want to be straining in that department after I'd only just been stitched back up!

Oooo, good tip moominsmummy. I think I will get some of that too then. I hate being constipated and was for over a week after DD born. Only had 2 stitches but it was very sore down there. I was really bruised and even the MW said "blimey!! what DID they do to you, you poor love!!" I don't think that helped pyschologically with the whole poo thing.....LOL!!!
