Advice please. Subchorionic Haematoma but feels like miscarriage, losing my mind. TW.

Hey there.

I should say, I know this isn’t the place for medical advice. I just need somewhere to talk, and if you have advice, please share.

I’m currently 12w 4 days pregnant and was scheduled to have my 12 week dating scan today. As I’m diabetic, I’d already had my 8 week. The pregnancy was as normal as expected.

Last night, I woke up around 3 feeling like I’d wet myself/needed to wee. I went to the bathroom, half asleep, and let out a scream as my entire underwear and pyjamas were covered in fresh red blood. I was peeing blood too.

We immediately went to A&E, preparing for the worst. I was sick with anxiety. The hospital had no extra beds so we were there for 7 hours. by the time we were at hospital, my bleeding had stopped and I was spotting lightly. 3 hours after arriving, a gynaecologist checked me and my womb was closed. So, I was advised I was having a threatened miscarriage and would need to wait til my 12 PM appointment (it was 6 AM at this point) to confirm.

The appt came, and my husband and I had been up for 9 hours. No more big bleeding but I’d passed one small clot. We were shitting it for the scan.

Baby was fine. The size you’d expect baby to be, kicking, waving, doing flips. Great heartbeat.

There was also a very small hematoma, separated from baby.

The consultant told us that we were at a higher than usual risk of miscarriage but to proceed as normal. She said some bleeding may still occur. No need for further scans unless something changes etc.

I’ve come home, and 3 hours later, another lighter, rush of blood. Red, bright red. No pain or cramping that is worse than before this episode. I can’t help but assume the worst.

Please please, have you experienced this? How did you cope?

Thank you x

Hi lovely, I couldn't read and vanish as I know why you're going through.
I experienced an SCH back in August and for me, it brought back trauma from a miscarriage in January 2021.

Im pleased to say that (so far) the baby has stuck and is growing well. We went through emergency scan at the EPAU following our bleed, and the sonographer did say that we had a small SCH. Advised at the time to do no lifting, bending and pelvic rest (to which I'm still adhering to) 12 weeks later.

At the time, we were also prescribed progesterone suppositories so that might be something to ask about?

Good luck 💕
