What you can and can’t use during pregnancy

Would appreciate everyone’s guidance on this please!
I am in the first trimester, very early days I know.
However, before getting pregnant I had no idea there were things you could and couldn’t use during pregnancy. Medication I understand, but I’ve been spiralling into anxiety today as I don’t know what skincare and makeup I can and can’t use. I’ve googled a few items but some people say it’s fine and others says their doctor advised them against it.
I’ve been using St Ives face scrub and Clean and Clear toner daily, both have salicylic acid in. Apparently this is a no no but I didn’t know that and have been using it every day so far. I’m so anxious that everything I do is killing our baby.
Does anyone have any tips for skincare/makeup which is safe to use while pregnant please?

Follow the NHS guidelines on their website; ignore anything else.

I think stressing is going to do more harm, listen to the NHS guidelines, I don't know how far you are but any questions you can ask your midwife at your booking appointment. Read the labels and if it doesn't say anything about being unsafe to use when pregnant then I wouldn't worry.

The concerns are related to taking certain treatments orally as these have been discovered to be harmful to baby. Doctors advise not to use certain treatments topically (on the skin) to be on the safe side - but there is no research that suggests they are harmful when used this way. So assuming you haven’t been taking any tablets for your skin stop panicking because anything you have done so far is fine - just stop using the topical treatments from now if the nhs website suggests so.

Best advice is stay away from Google! Look at NHS guidance, or Tommy's website and ignore everything else. Midwife will also give good advice at the booking appointment. I wouldn't worry about skincare though.
Totally understand the anxiety though, I spent my first trimester constantly in a panic that I'd eaten something or used a product I shouldn't and Google was not helpful. Anything that should really be avoided will be on the NHS website.

I use a St Ives facescrub, didn't think to check ingredients on that! 23 weeks and no issues at all.

Avoid salicylic acid it's a no no but glycolic acid is fine. Vitamin A absolute NO. Now in saying all that they're applied on the skin and generally washed off if a cleanser etc so how deep is it penetrating but from now on just avoid the above ingredients 🥰

I live in France and the official guidelines are more cautious than what I’ve read on the NHS website, they say to avoid things with synthetic perfume/fragrance for example because they can contain pthalates which are known endocrine disrupters.
I have a couple of products from the uk brand handmade naturals (ones without essential oils) that I use and then just use coconut oil as a body moisturizer for example

I'm sorry you are worrying about this. I am a worrier and I remember having this more about what I could or couldn't eat. I am bear 30 weeks now and glad u didn't even think about products I was using such as makebup and skin cleanser. I wouldn't of even thought about it.
I am far more relaxed than I was at the start and I hope rhe same for you. As a couple of people have said the anxiety and stress will be worse for the baby than make up and skin products (generally).
I'd do what some other ladies have advised and go of NHS website as point of source and that's it. Google is a no! there is always a story of 1 person 1 time in 1 billion people where something has happened this will just cause unesscesary stress.
I was advised to follow nhs guidelines and listen to midwife and I am really enjoying my pregnancy now. The only thing I worry about it ... giving birth .. I say worry I mean more nervous but at the same time I can't wait - first time mum thing ahah! Please take care xx

Completely agree with this advice- step away from Google, it's a pregnant woman's worst nightmare!

Oh god don't worry. Baby Centre says small amounts applied to the skin – such as a salicylic acid-containing toner used once or twice a day – are considered safe

As per others. Read the NHS website, ignore everything else. It will be a long 9 months otherwise.
