Telling work

I’ve just arranged my first booking appointment.

I have a great relationship with my LM but it feels almost inappropriate to tell him about my pregnancy so early on before telling friends and family!

However, I know he’d be supportive and when I say I have a hospital apt I’m sure he’ll ask if everything’s ok!

I know I’m probably overthinking but it would be good to get a sense of what’s normal! If you have a good relationship with your manager, when did you tell them you’re pregnant?

Thanks!

Told mine at 7 weeks as had sickness and my job is quite demanding. Only my mum knew and my manager. Told rest of family from 11 weeks on x

my work colleagues also know a lot more info about my pregnancy then most of my family. I’m with them everyday and they always check up on me. They even know my name ideas but not sharing name ideas with family just yet! X

I can't help, as I'm currently 16.5 weeks and still haven't told mine - I'm just constantly putting it off and I'm not even sure why now!

Unless I was specifically asked about my appointment, I was always going to wait till after 12 weeks.

I told work at 25wks in my first pregnancy and 22wks this time around but have been fortunate to have relatively easy pregnancies.

I was relatively new in my job (6 months ish) and didn’t particularly like my manager, so waited until after 12 week scan. Next time round I’d think I’d tell much sooner so it would be easier to push back on workload and take time off if nauseous/exhausted (helps that I have a new manager now who I get on better with and trust more)

I can’t stand my manager but told them around 9/10 weeks, because I had bad nausea which was affecting me at work.

It still felt all the more special when I soon after told family and friends!

I think if you guys have a good relationship there’s no harm in having the added support at work, especially as that’s where you’ll spend a lot of your time x

I told my manager as soon as I found out at 4 weeks because my job is risky. I’d rather not have but needs must. I got HG anyway so if she didn’t know then she’d know weeks later as it’s kept me off work.

Bluesea14 · 17/10/2024 14:36

I told mine at 16 weeks. She was on holiday for a few weeks and I didn't want to say anything before the first scan. I'm so glad I waited. There's honestly no rush x

I think it depends on your role as well- I’m a therapist and can’t currently take on longer term clients so I had to share in line with allocation timelines .
